Vêtements en cuirIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The topic of traceability has been covered quite extensively in the tanning industry, with ILM and theSauerReport leading the front of information. The industry and its partners are also moving rapidly at pace. The end users of leather add increasing amounts of pressure onto the supply chain to corne up with solutions to their increasing amount of risk. Consumers demand more traceability and transparency, with suppliers of services rapidly formulating ways in which this can be done.
Like in other industries, the way in which the traceability systems are rolled out are generally going to be led by commercial partners who put the systems in place. The commercial partners will need two things, depending on their business ethics: For dubious businesses, theywill need regulation and control, but for most honourable traceability service providers, theywill need standards that can improve over time. The development of standards should ideally come before several solutions are in place to avoid disappointment of the businesses that are early adopters.
Figure 1 shows the current situation in the clothing and footwear supply chain. The situation in the automotive supply chain may be equally as challenging since, while there is certainly more traceability in their supply chain, there are also more tiers where informational losses can take place.Note de contenu : - What are traceability standards ?

Cuirs et peaux de bovinsIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : There is an increasing interest in selling and buying leather to specification and in within tannery quality control. Fundamental to this problem is a knowledge of within and between skin variability. American workers have published a series of papers dealing with the variability of varions sampling locations with the objective of choosing the most representative area (giving results most nearly to the mean). The experiments generated a great deal of information, of which it was unfortunately only possible to publish a summary. A more recent paper by van Vlimmeren brings this information more up to date but again average values for each location are quoted. This enables a correction for mean value of the total area from the results at a sampling location. Mean values can however be only an indication of performance; more important is the percentage area under a given limit if in order to make a shoe, the leather must have a tear strength of 5 kg, it is little use saying that the mean value is 5.5 kg. This could mean that 40 % of the population could well be below the required limit. It is therefore important to know something of the type of distribution or it would require a very large sample to ensure that if there is any significant proportion in the pack below the limit that one or more of these is actually present in the sample which is taken. Lollar4 showed that in a pack of 350 hide samples at the britch that the distribution of stich tear results was approximately "normal" in distribution, and there was the suggestion that other properties might be similarly distributed.
