Ions cuivreIndex. décimale : 535.6 Couleur Résumé : A highly selective sulphur-containing colorimetric chemosensor APTS ((E)-2-(tert-butyl)-6-(((2-(phenylthio)phenyl)imino)methyl)phenol) was synthesised for detecting Cu2+. APTS showed a clear colour change from colourless to yellow with Cu2+. The detection limit of APTS for Cu2+ was 0.52 µmol/L. APTS could also be used as a test strip for detecting Cu2+. To understand the binding mode of APTS with Cu2+, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy and electrospray ionisation-mass spectrometry analyses were conducted. The sensing mechanism of sensor APTS towards Cu2+ was proposed to be the combination of intramolecular charge transfer and ligand-;to-metal charge-transfer through theoretical calculations. In fact, the possibility of finding the optimal feasible vectors with the capability of matching the spectral space of black samples was investigated. In this way, the application of non-negative matrix factorization (NNMF) method was examined on spectral dataset of 363 black coated fabrics to derive the non-negative basis functions. The extracted primaries were then employed for spectral matching of black samples where, one to three non-negative spectra were employed as optimal colorants. Results showed that both the spectral and colorimetric reconstruction errors decreased by increasing the number of primaries while applying of 3 non-negative feasible bases could mimic the spectral behaviors of black samples well. Besides, the role of chromatic primaries in two and three bases system was found very important due to better replication of reflectance spectra that matches the tint effect of blacks. pH
SpectrophotométrieIndex. décimale : 535.6 Couleur Résumé : The application of phenol red has been widely applied in cell culture media to enable monitoring of the pH value of cell growth. However, sometimes it is difficult for a human observer to identify the colour transformation using only the naked eye. Furthermore, different people will give different interpretations of colour transformation. Thus the current study was performed to provide the spectrophotometry and colorimetry profiling of pure phenol red and cell culture media to pH variation. Pure phenol red and cell culture media were used as samples. The pH values of both types of sample were manipulated using citric acid. Spectrophotometry analysis results show that the pH value of the pure phenol red samples could be well profiled by using the wavelengths in the green light region (in the range of 500-600 nm). The pH value of the cell culture medium samples could also be well profiled, by using wavelengths in either the green or blue light region. Colorimetry analysis results conducted using CIELab colour space indicate that the colour transformation of both samples is linear, with a high value for the coefficient of determination. This profiling proves that phenol red can be used to quantify the pH values of the samples and shows good potential to be applied in the development of spectroscopy-based and colorimetry-based pH sensors. Spectroscopie de réflectanceIndex. décimale : 535.6 Couleur Résumé : The spectral reflectance of a colour is its most essential characteristic, and it does not change with changes of equipment or light source. Therefore, the reconstruction of spectral reflectance from parameters such as colour tristimulus value and RGB has attracted the attention of researchers. To avoid the occurrence of metamerism in the colour reproduction process and to achieve the purpose of colour spectral reproduction, the spectral reflectance and the optimal parameters of the reconstruction using the weighted fitting method were discussed experimentally with the colour data measured from the Sino Colour Book as the research object. The results show that the best results are obtained when the weighted fitting parameters are weighted by the third power and eight colour samples are involved in the fitting. The reconstructed spectral reflectance obtained by the weighted fitting method has little variation and high overlap with the actual spectral reflectance obtained at each hue and lightness, thus meets the requirements of practical applications. Sondes fluorescentesIndex. décimale : 535.6 Couleur Résumé : Two isomeric proton–receptor fluorescent probes 1 and 2 were designed and synthesised by employing the photoinduced electron transfer (PET) principle of a ‘fluorophore–spacer–receptor’ module. Their photophysical characteristics were investigated in organic solvents and Britton–Robinson buffer/EtOH (1:1, v/v) solution. Probe 1 was sensitive in the stronger acidic region of 2.21–4.56, while probe 2 displayed a good response towards protons within the pH scope of 4.10–6.09. The specificity of the probes toward protons in commonly used buffer solutions and in the presence of metal cations, Na(i), K(i), Ca(ii), Mg(ii), Al(iii), Pb(ii), Fe(iii), Ni(ii), Zn(ii), Cu(ii), Hg(ii), Ag(i), Co(ii), Cr(iii), Mn(ii), and Cd(ii) ions, was studied by monitoring the changes in their fluorescence intensity. The tested metal ions exerted no noticeable influence. The results obtained show that the synthesised proton–receptor fluorescent probes have the capability to act as pH-sensitive probes for monitoring pH variations in the range 2.21–6.09.
