Fortunately, there are many ways that composites can help automakers meet their goals. A consortium of companies decided to investigate new options to improve the mechanical performance vs. weight and cost for direct-long-fiber thermoplastic (D-LFT) composites combined with semifinished fabrics and laminates made with unidirectional glass tapes. Results of the study are described here. Note de contenu : - Direct-long fiber thermoplastic (D-LFT) composites

Nanotubes de carbone à parois multiplesUn nanotube de carbone multifeuillet est constitué de plusieurs feuillets de graphènes enroulés les uns autour des autres. Il existe deux modèles pour décrire la structure des nanotubes multifeuillets :
- le modèle poupée russe: les plans de graphène sont arrangés en cylindres concentriques ;
- le modèle parchemin: un seul feuillet de graphène est enroulé sur lui-même, comme une feuille de papier.

UltrasonsIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The Carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composites finds wide range of applications in various fields such as aerospace, defence etc. The present study focuses on fabrication and mechanical characterization of different ply oriented Continuous Carbon Fibre reinforcedepoxy composites (CCFE). CCFE composites were fabricated using Drum winding, Hand Lay Up (HLU) followed by Compression Moulding with (0°)4, (0°/90°/0°/90°)4, (45°)4 orientations. Mechanical Characterisation was performed on the fabricated composites as per ASTM standards. CCFE with (0°/90°/0°/90°)4 orientation exhibited better compressive strength over other composites. 0.5,1.5 weight % of Multi Walled Carbon Nano-Tubes (MWCNTs) were reinforced in to the epoxy resin using ultrasonicator. The resin mixture with 0.5, 1.5 weight % of MWCNTs was used as matrix for the fabrication of (0°/90°/0°/90°)4 composites. Tensile, Compression, Flexural, Impact, Hardness and Water absorption tests were performed to investigate the effect of MWCNTs on (0°/90°/0°/90°)4 composites. CCFE samples with MWCNTs at 0.5% exhibited 1.63%, 5.23%, 16.47%, 3.9%, 29.6% increment in tensile strength, compressive strength, ILSS, impact strength, hardness, water absorptionand 36.9% decrement in flexural strength. Simulation par ordinateurIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : IVW has developed a new concept for the construction of hybrid structures, especially for use in the automotive industry. Through the effective combination of two different lighweight production methods - a forming process such as compression moulding or thermoforming and an optimized thermoplastic in-situ tape placement process for the accurate positioning of local reinforcements - major improvements in mechanical properties and an overall weight reduction can be achieved. ViscoélasticitéIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This study focus on fabricating a Cissus Quadrangularis Fiber (CQF) reinforced epoxy hybrid composite with the addition of titanium diboride (TiB2) as filler. A compression molding technique was employed to fabricate the composite samples. The volume of the CQF was maintained at 30 wt%, and TiB2 was added with various weight proportions ranging from 0 % to 10 %. The mechanical, thermal, viscoelastic, and dielectric properties of the hybrid composite samples were evaluated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to examine the impact of filler addition on the matrix-fiber bonding of the tensile fractured test specimens. The results revealed that the composite with 8 wt% filler produced high mechanical properties and comparable dielectric properties. Based on these findings, the fabricated composites are recommended for suitable applications in the automotive, electrical, and construction industries.
