Acier

They represent a newly discovered elemental form of carbon and have remarkable properties in terms of mechanical strength, thermal conductance and electrical conductivity. CNTs are the strongest materials ever discovered, with tensile strengths reported to be 50 times that of steel. They can also have conductivities 1,000 times that of copper.
Since their discovery, CNTs have been an intense focus area in nanotechnology research. Advancements in synthesis technologies have now allowed for the large-scale production of CNTs such that these materials are finding their way into commercial product applications.
CNTs are available in a variety of forms, including single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs) and multi-walled nanotubes (MWNTs). In addition, MWNTs can be produced having a "Russian doll" structure consisting of individual tubes within tubes, or having a "parchment" structure consisting of a continuous, multi-rolled sheet of carbon. CNTs can also come in a variety of chiralities based on how the sheet of carbon atoms are connected together (including so-called "zig-zag" and "armchair" configurations), as well as in a range of different sizes, with typical diameters of 1-3 nm and lengths that approach several microns (with aspect ratios exceeding 1,000x).
Different types of CNTs can exhibit large differences in terms of strength, conductivity and other properties. Commercially available CNTs normally consist of complex mixtures of tube types and sizes, thus making proper CNT selection a critical requirement for successful results in a given application.Note de contenu : - Use of carbon nanotubes in corrosion-control coatings

The influence of parameters such as concentration of aniline, TiO2 content, and pH of the solution were investigated. The coatings which had been deposited by cyclic voltammetry on substrates of A304 steel were then characterized by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The cyclic voltammograms showed three redox couples characteristic of the different oxidation and reduction states of the produced polymer. PANI+TiO2 composite material was observed to exhibit higher corrosion resistance and better properties. The effectiveness of coatings in preventing corrosion was tested by potentiodynamic polarization studies and scanning electron microscopy was used to characterize the morphology of the coatings. The results showed that PANI+TiO2 coatings offer good anticorrosion protection to steel in 1 M H2SO4 solutions. The micrograph taken at the coatings surface showed that (PANI+TiO2)/A304 composite was uniform in nature and TiO2 particles were uniformly covered by PANI. After immersion into a corrosive solution for 45 min, no aggressive effect was observed and the coating films were still present. Moreover, the formation of PANI+TiO2 composite was also confirmed by EDX. Furthermore, it was found that the presence of a low amount of TiO2 in PANI coatings afforded the best protection due to the formation of a coating layer on the metallic surface which behaved like a physical barrier against the aggressive medium attack. Spectres d'absorptionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Interest in faster curing systems has led to infrared (IR) curing of powder coatings. The efficiency of IR heating depends on both the coating spectral absorption characteristics and the spectral emissions of the infrared source. Coating spectral absorptivities were measured with an FTIR spectrometer with an integrating sphere. Using the spectral absorptivities and normalized blackbody emissions, integrated average absorptivities and overall radiant efficiencies were calculated for blackbody emitter temperatures ranging from 500 to 3000 K (440 to 4940°F). The effects of several powder coating parameters on spectral absorptivities, integrated average absorptivities, and overall radiant efficiencies were studied.
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Corrosion-resistant superhydrophobic surfaces were successfully fabricated on galvanized steel through a wet oxidation treatment and stearic acid modification. In this work, the formation mechanism of superhydrophobic surfaces and structures were characterized with contact angle meter, scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The surface properties of superhydrophobic and non-superhydrophobic surfaces were assessed by calculating surface free energy (γ) and work of adhesion (Wst). Moreover, the corrosion behavior and durability of superhydrophobic surfaces were examined in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution for up to 14 days. Superhydrophobic galvanized surfaces with WCAs of 168° (γ = 0.01 mN/m and 1.57 mN/m) and 162° (γ = 0.04 mN/m and Wst = 3.52 mN/m) were successfully obtained by modifying HCl etched surfaces with ethanolic stearic acid, with or without wet oxidation. According to the results, a zinc stearate layer on the surfaces effectively enhanced their corrosion resistance by numerous air pockets on the surfaces with hierarchical micro-/nanostructures that inhibited penetration by the NaCl solution. Moreover, superhydrophobic as-synthesized ZnO surface by wet oxidation had better corrosion durability than a superhydrophobic etched surface because of the strong physical and chemical bonding of stearic acid onto the as-synthesized ZnO nanorods.
