Rough surface structure and low surface energy could be directly obtained. Vinyl functionalized SiO2 (vinyl-SiO2) spheres with average diameter of 500 nm were first synthesized by a sol–gel method in aqueous solution using vinyltriethoxysilane as the precursor. The multilayer SiO2 coating fabricated by dip-coating method was highly hydrophobic with a water contact angle of 145.7° ± 2.3°. The superhydrophobic SiO2 coating with a water contact angle up to 158° ± 1.7° was prepared by spraying an alcohol mixture suspension of the vinyl-SiO2 spheres on the glass substrate. In addition, the superhydrophobic SiO2 coating demonstrated good stability under the acidic condition. However, it lost its hydrophobicity above 200°C because of the oxidation and degradation of vinyl groups.
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : As aqueous inkjet continues to take market shares from traditional printing techniques, it must expand its substrates from traditional office paper to a broader spectrum of substrates used for packaging, signage and labels. CAB-O-SPERSE® silica and alumina dispersions can help prime difficult substrates to work with aqueous inkjet inks because of the porosity they generate and their surface charge characteristics. These dispersions enable the formulation of precoats that can greatly enhance optimized image quality such as high color saturation, less mottle and wet smudge resistance. They also offer stability and flexibility in the waterborne coating systems. Note de contenu : - Fumed metal oxide dispersions - key component in an aqueous inkjet receptive coating

VectorisationIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : - Objective : Cosmetic films and patches are interesting forms to promote skin penetration of active ingredients as they ensure their long stay on the treated zone of the skin. Nevertheless, currently developed films and patches are most of all hydrophilic and are not adapted to the hydrophobic molecules. The aim of this study was to establish whether nanodispersion of fatty acid-based active cosmetic ingredients (ACI) could be a manner to introduce high concentrations of those ACI in hydrophilic films.
- Methods : Punica granatum seed oil hydroxyphenethyl esters (PHE) constitute a commercialized lipolytic cosmetic ingredient obtained by enzymatic conjugation of tyrosol to long-chain fatty acids and to enhance its skin diffusion. Nanodispersions of PHE were prepared by a green emulsion-solvent evaporation process and dispersed in polyvinyl alcohol films. Raman imaging coupled to multivariate analysis was used to study the distribution of PHE in the films.
- Results : Nanodispersions of PHE combined with antioxidant vitamin E and stabilized by Pluronic® F127 were successfully prepared. The nanodispersions show a spherical shape and a hydrodynamic diameter close to 100 nm. Raman images analysis with multivariate approaches showed a very homogeneous distribution of PHE nanodispersions in the films compared to free PHE introduced as an ethanol solution.
- Conclusion : Nanodispersions of hydrophobic fatty acid-based ingredients seem to be relevant method to introduce this type of ingredient in hydrophilic film matrix. The co-suspension with vitamin E limits their degradation in time.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Chemicals - Preparation of NanoPHE - Characterization of NanoPHE - Preparation and characterization of PHE-loaded PVA films - Raman imaging

Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Melt extrusion of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) is desirable over commonly practiced solution film casting due to reduced energy input, environmental footprint, and processing cost, however, melt extrusion processing of plasticized polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) presents a significant processing challenge due to inherent adhension issues of extruded PVOH film to the surface of equipment. This paper reports a method using inorganic fillers such as CaCO3and talc to facilitate the plasticized PVOH processing for blown films. Parameters are also identified for additional process studies to optimize the mechanical properties of blown films. It was found that the preferred inorganic filler is CaCO3for the PVOH stickiness reduction. The filled PVOH films were found to have delayed or reduced water solubility. It takes about 7 to 10 minutes for the filled PVOH films to dissolve in water whereas the neat PVOH films are soluble in water instantly. The delayed water solubility may be desirable for certain specialty applications such as packaging of pesticides during shipping and storage. With improved processability by incorporating filler, the melt extrusion produced PVOH film should cost less than the solution-cast PVOH films.
