PhotopilesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The EU-funded research project, R2R-CIGS, seeks to develop low-cost continuous production processes for flexible solar cells.
Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is a coatings technology widely used in the micro-electronics industry as it can create very thin coatings of high quality. However, in its normal form, it is relatively slow as the coating precursors are applied sequentially. A system has been developed in which the different precursors can be applied sequentially to a moving web, achieving significantly higher production rates.
The development of this coating system and the introduction of the first commercial coating machines of this type are described.Note de contenu : - AN INTRODUCTION TO ATOMIC LAYER DEPOSITION TECHNIQUES : Advantages and limitations of spatial ALD

PhotopilesIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Energy prices are on a steady rise and have become a significant factor regarding competitiveness in business. More and more brands and customers are asking for green production and improved environmental KPIs (key performance indicators). The sun is almost an unlimited energy source, which is never increasing in price and does not pollute the air, nor does it have a negative influence on our climate, as solar energy is a CO2 emission free technology.
The sun offers a thousand times more energy to the world than we could ever consume. In countries where we normally find an energy and water intensive industry, such as the leather or textile industries, the sun could be saving an equivalent of 150 to 200 litres of fuel oil per square metre - continuously, reliably every year. The questionis, how can we use the sun to support the energy demands of a tannery and how to integrate it into the existing hot water or power system ?Note de contenu : - Solar technologies

UltrasonsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In an attempt to improve surface wetting and coating characteristics, a novel technique, i.e., imposing ultrasonic vibration on the substrate, is introduced. This technique is combined with conventional ultrasonic spray coating, thus substrate vibration-assisted spray coating (SVASC), and is employed to fabricate PEDOT:PSS thin films. PEDOT:PSS is a co-polymer, commonly used as solar cell buffer layers and thin-film electrodes. Advanced surface characterization techniques, such as atomic force microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy are utilized. The results show that the application of the imposed vibration on the substrate results in a significant decrease in surface roughness, film thickness, and the number of defects and pin-holes. In terms of the film functionality, the electrical conductivity of the PEDOT:PSS films made using the SVASC technique shows a four-time increase, compared to those made by conventional ultrasonic spray coating. In conventional ultrasonic spray coating, increasing the number of spray passes or deposition layers usually improves the coating uniformity. For aqueous PEDOT:PSS solution and within the range of the values of the parameters investigated in this work, with imposed substrate vibration, the number of spray passes is immaterial, as far as the film uniformity is concerned. However, the application of multiple spray passes enhances the film’s electrical conductivity. Our unprecedented results on the combined substrate vibration with spray coating provide a platform for low-cost fabrication of solution-processed thin-film solar cell devices, and a forward step toward commercialization of emerging solar cells, such as polymer and perovskite solar cells. The positive effect of using imposed substrate vibration on spray-on solar cell thin films may be deployed in other coating (e.g., spin coating) and spray coating applications as well.
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The multifaceted applications of superhydrophobic surfaces arising out of their unique surface architecture have gained significant attention in the solar photovoltaic industry as it addresses the challenges in light conversion efficiency at an industrial scale due to the soiling of surfaces. Inspired by the self-cleaning properties of the lotus leaf, this review proposes the use of superhydrophobic surfaces as an effective solution for soiling mitigation in solar cell applications. The review examines various factors influencing dust settlement and evaluates existing soiling mitigation techniques. As most literature reports the insufficiency of theoretical wetting models with the controversies around its assumptions, the importance of modified models over the theoretical models is compared and highlighted. The foundations of superhydrophobic coatings including transmittance, porosity, and refractive index of coatings, thickness and surface roughness in addition to the commonly reported surface tension and surface free energy aid to focus on feasible fabrication techniques and provide improved efficiency of solar cells. Finally, the review presents a classification of durability tests to highlight the importance of durable coatings bridging the gap between the fabrication and application of superhydrophobic coatings for solar cells on an industrial scale.
