ThiolsIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : This paper is devoted to the phenolsulphonephthalein nitro derivative 3,3'-dinitrophenolsulphonephthalein, also called nitrophenol violet (NPV). The neutral molecular form, H2R, was isolated as a sultonic tautomer, and an X-ray crystal structure analysis was carried out. UV-vis absorption spectra in methanol, DMSO, acetonitrile, and water at different pH values were ascribed to the molecular and anionic (H2R, HR-, and R2-) species. Whereas the pKa values of this acid–base indicator (HR- urn:x-wiley:14723581:media:cote12254:cote12254-math-0001 R2- + H+) in water and DMSO are close to those of 3,3',5,5'-tetrabromophenolsulphonephthalein (or bromophenol blue), replacing the four Br atoms with two NO2 groups results in a pronounced tendency to carbinol formation. In weakly acidic aqueous media, the HR- anion slowly converts into the colourless carbinol H2ROH-. The latter is transformed to the orange carbocation only in concentrated (70-94 wt%) sulphuric acid. The formation of H2ROH- is atypical for the common sulphonephthalein indicators and should be ascribed to the enhanced positive charge density on the nodal carbon atom. The reaction mechanism and kinetic equation explaining this pH-dependent process are proposed, in addition to a kinetic study of the common process R2- + HO- -> ROH3- in the alkaline region. The numerical characterisation of the protolytic processes obtained for NPV is also helpful in gaining a better understanding of the properties of previously studied 3,3',5,5'-tetranitrophenolsulphonephthalein, which is much less accessible for a quantitative description. The term amino resin refers to a group of viscous, thermosetting amino-group-containing components that have use in curing with other resins to form a cross-linked network. They are widely used as cross-linking agents for hydroxyl, carboxyl and amide functional polymers. Note de contenu : - Melamine-based amino resins

Thus, an improved analytical procedure based on the current Standard ISO 13365-1-2020, was investigated to accurately test the total contents of the four fungicides in leather. It was verified that the ultrasonic assisted acetonitrile extraction described in this Standard is only effective for extracting TCMTB, but inefficient for PCMC, OPP and OIT. The extraction efficiency by acetonitrile was 93% for PCMC, 95% for OPP and 89% for OIT, respectively. Methanol was proven to be an optimal alternative of acetonitrile for sample extraction and presented satisfactory extraction efficiencies (~100%) for eluting the four fungicides at a wide content range (80-470 mg/kg). The detection limits were evaluated and well satisfy the requirement by the Ecolabels. Results of HPLC chromatograms from commercial leather samples demonstrated no obvious matrix interferences from methanol extraction. Series of leather samples from different origins were analyzed. TCMTB was found in 86% and OIT in 30% of the total tested samples, which were higher in content than the allowable limits by Ecolabels.

Tannage Résumé : This study was about the release of free formaldehyde from tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium (THP) salts and various syntan leather products, and the antioxidative blocking defense mechanisms of various essential oils. For that purpose, Citrus reticulata L., Melaleuca alternifolia, Origanum onites and Thymus vulgaris essential oils of 2% were used during fatliquoring. Formaldehyde analyses in finished leathers were performed according to TS EN ISO 17226-1 international standard by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) test method. To make a comparison on the analyses, some leather samples as a control group were processed without any essential oil. The results were evaluated statistically by using One-Way ANOVA and Duncan tests with the SPSS 15 statistic program. The results showed that Origanum onites essential oil used in fatliquoring process was significantly determined to eliminate the release of free formaldehyde in leather.
