(Wikipedia)
Silicate de potassiumIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A formula for an environmentally friendly and safe fire-proof paint was developed based on a potassium silicate aqueous solution with addition of a magnesium-containing fire retardant. The predominant use in paint of magnesium-containing fire retardant such as hydromagnesite compared to brucite and magnesite was demonstrated. It was established that a paint containing 5.5 wt% of hydromagnesite provides the first group of fire resistance for a wooden surface. The high fire resistance of the paint with this formula is proven by the high intumescence ratio (150%) and low weight losses (8.4%) after tests in a ceramic tube. When the paint is heated, a gradual loss of weight is detected, which is related to the characteristics of the hydromagnesite structure and helps to obtain an effectively foamed protective layer that prevents the diffusion of combustible gases and flame. RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The need to provide fire protection has long been recognised as one of the main disadvantages wich faces steel in its battle against competitive materials in multistorey construction. This arises, not only, because of the cost of applying the protection itself, in the United Kingdom is currently thought to average 23% of the total cost of the steel frame, but also because of the effects of the application process on the construction programme. It buildings, to find that applying fire protection is one the critical path and so can significantly affect the overall construction time.
This paper looks at the requirements for a fire protection material from the viewpoint of the steelmaker, engineer and architect and also the question of off-site fire protection, an area in wich there is growing interest.Note de contenu : - CHOOSING A FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM : Appearance - Mechanical durability - Compatibility - Compatibility with the surroundings - Space requirements - Construction programme - Application or fixing rates - Cost

Structures offshore -- Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A cryogenic spill can be similar to a hydrocarbon fire in terms of thermal shock. It is, therefore, essential that intumescent epoxy coatings must protect from extreme cold, as well as fire.
Traditionally, flexible epoxy passive fire protection, PFP, coatings have been used in environments where exterior or durability and corrosion resistance are required. The difference in these coatings to standard paints is that they are applied at much higher film thicknesses and, as such, they can be used without the need for active methods of protection such as the activation of a sprinkler system.
Many companies working in offshore oil and gas exploration are aware of the importance of using fire-protective coatings on their fixed and floating assets and will typically select a coatings system that will function in a specific operational environment, eg, where loading, storing or unloading cryogenically-cooled liquids, remains a challenging process.

Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Even though flexible and rigid intumescent-epoxy-PFP systems may yield considerably different flexibility data, the overall formulation technology and multiple intrinsic and extrinsic stress-strain factors determine whether or not epoxy PFPs crack in cold environments.
It is important to choose a fireproofing system that fulfills the requirements for application to steel in shop and field environments during fabrication and construction phases - a fireproofing system that can be practically and economically maintained during the life of the asset.
