Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The blistering of epoxy coating and its evolution were investigated after being exposed to 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The evolution of under-film corrosion could be divided into four stages according to the observation of the corrosion morphology and the distribution of corrosion products and elements. Corrosion propagation was related to the distribution of media at the edge of the blistering area. Local electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis revealed that local impedance mapping could help in predicting the direction of corrosion propagation. The interfacial debonding at the edge of the blistering area was a necessary condition for corrosion propagation. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENT : Specimens - Instrumentation

Vernis -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Two different types of nano-silica (i.e., hydrophilic Aerosil 200 and hydrophobic Aerosil R805) were employed in the preparation of 2-pack acrylic polyol polyurethane nano-coatings so that the electrochemical properties of the resultant coatings could be investigated. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used to evaluate the corrosion performances of such nano-coatings applied onto mild steel substrates that were immersed in 3.5% (w/w) NaCl solutions. It was observed coatings that contained nano-silica increased the barrier properties of the binder, as well as the coatings’ electrochemical resistance compared with pure polyurethane coatings. The surface tension of pure polyurethane was measured by a tensiometer. Rheological properties were also determined at various shear rates by a rotaviscometer. Results showed that the surface tension of hydrophobic nano-silica is very close to the pure polyurethane matrix, giving the better compatibility of the two. This was further confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and by the fact that the hydrophobically filled nano-silica coatings showed shear thinning behavior in the fluid state. Also observed was better corrosion performance of the resultant hydrophobic nano-coatings compared to coatings embedded with hydrophilic nano-silica.

ZincIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Cardanol-based reactive polyamides with different amine functionalities were successfully developed by conventional polycondensation mechanism. The synthesis involved 2-step processes of functionalization of cardanol by maleic anhydride followed by its condensation with diethylenetriamine in the second step. The polyamides with different molecular weights were prepared by varying the mole ratios of acid and amine components in the formulation. The developed polyamides were characterized for structural confirmation by FTIR and NMR spectroscopy. These polyamides were then used as crosslinker in conventional epoxy zinc-rich primer. The effect of molecular weights of these polyamides on mechanical, chemical, and solvent resistance properties of conventional epoxy zinc-rich primer was studied and compared with that of commercial polyamide. The anticorrosive properties of the primers were evaluated by humidity resistance test, salt spray test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The study revealed that the epoxy zinc-rich primers cured with cardanol-based polyamide resulted in improved mechanical, chemical, and anticorrosive properties as evaluated by various methods.

Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This research article reports on the response of various hybrid sol–gel materials when applied as coatings to pre-treated bare AA2024 substrates, to mechanical indentation and cyclic thermal stimuli, in order to determine their usefulness in aeronautical applications. Three groups of hybrid sol–gel-coated samples were prepared using various organosilanes and transition metal oxides. The characterization of the materials revealed that the presence of the organic functionalities, especially the methacrylate group, has a noticeable effect on the mechanical response of the hybrid coatings, in particular their flexibility. The presence of methacrylate group in the cured material gives it ability to flex which influenced the thermal fatigue characteristics of the coatings which are able to withstand the cyclic temperature regimes of 82 ± 3 to −37 ± 3°C over 25 2 h cycles. This capability to maintain substrate protection is reflected in the corrosion resistance of the coatings as measured using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and accelerated exposure testing. This result is important, as it shows that hybrid sol–gel materials can be used in applications where protecting a metal or ally substrate is paramount, especially in thermally volatile environments.
