The surface morphology and composition of the coatings were examined through SEM and EDX techniques. Corrosion resistances of these coatings were compared using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and linear polarization studies. The corrosion resistances of the coatings investigated were found to be according to the order as follows: modified acid fluoride > micro arc oxidized phosphate > micro arc oxidized silicate > dichromate > galvanic black anodizing > phosphate-permanganate > bare magnesium. Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : 3,4-Ethylenedioxythiophene and 3-octylthiophene were electropolymerized on glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) to compare with four different electrolytes [lithium perchlorate (LiClO4), sodium perchlorate, tetraethylammonium tetrafluoroborate, and tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate] in a solvent of acetonitrile (CH3CN). Modified electrodes were characterized by cyclic voltammetry, attenuated total reflectance–Fourier transform IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, atomic force microscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Nyquist and Bode plots for magnitude, phase, admittance, and capacitance on both polymer-modified electrodes were comparatively investigated in detail. The highest low-frequency capacitance (C LF) and double-layer capacitance (C dl) were obtained in 0.1 M LiClO4/CH3CN for poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) and poly(octylthiophene)/GCE. EIS data were fitted to the equivalent circuit model of R(Q(R(C(R(C(RW))))))(CR), which is used to investigate circuit parameters. Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Variations in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data are largely due to variations in a coating system, and not to equipment measurement errors. The relative statistical error is greatest when the repetition number for each variable is less than five. Sample standard deviation also significantly affects error magnitude when repetition number is less than five. One scheme for coping with statistical error in EIS data is to use both: (1) five or more repetitions per variable, and (2) scattergrams to assess data trends as a function of time.

Spectroscopie RamanIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In the maritime industry, stainless steel corrosion resistance requires further surface improvement and further enhanced protection using surface coatings. In this study, an engineered copolymer of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA)-blended coating was found to provide outstanding corrosion resistance for metal surfaces affording protection against severely corrosive marine environments. Electrochemical measurements indicate that corrosion protection of 316 stainless steel was drastically increased when utilizing the KP blend (a combination of PVDF + PMMA), producing a new set of corrosion properties and morphological characteristics. The corrosion protection of the KP coating proved to be very effective in reducing the passive region current density from 2.19 × 10−5 A/cm2 (for bare stainless steel) to 2.63 × 10−10 A/cm2 and the breakdown passive region potential at 0.25 V. This was followed by a significant decrease in corrosion rate, when compared to pure PMMA and PVDF films, during exposure to artificial marine seawater. With the KP film, impedance measurements surpassed those of other films, with a noticeable nonpeak straight line in the phase angle diagram. Optical observation showed that corrosion pits and delamination areas existed under the coatings.
(Wikipedia)

Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Magnesium coating was electroplated on carbon steel to improve its corrosion protection. The analytical characterization of the magnesium coating was performed by scanning electron spectroscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The electrochemical behavior of Mg-coated carbon steel was assessed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, open-circuit potential measurements and potentiodynamic polarization curves in 0.03% sodium chloride solution. The electrochemical results showed that the self-corrosion current density (icorr) of magnesium-coated steel was 0.32 mA cm?2 (about 1.8% of that of uncoated steel). Impedance results showed an increase of the total impedance when magnesium coating was applied on steel substrate. The corrosion protection was ensured by a two-step mechanism. The first step was cathodic polarization; the second step was the formation of a barrier due to magnesium oxides composed of MgO, Mg(OH2) and Mg(OH3)Cl.
