VernisIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Newly synthesized polycarbonate diols containing hindered urea (PCD-HUs) were employed to modify the scratch-healing properties of conventional two-component clearcoats. To elucidate their contributions to the crosslinking properties of the coatings under conventional thermal curing (150°C), the real-time rheological properties of the clearcoat mixtures were measured using a rotational rheometer in the small-amplitude oscillatory shear mode. A dynamic mechanical analysis was carried out to compare the thermomechanical properties of the cured clearcoat free films. PCD-HU, a key component for the tuning of the scratch-healing, was further identified by analyzing the clearcoat layer cured over a phosphated metal substrate with undercoats such as primer and basecoat as a precoated metal (PCM) sheet. Elastic recovery and scratch profiles of the outermost clearcoat layer in the PCM sheet were acquired through nano-indentation and nano-scratch tests by gradually increasing the quantitative normal force. Finally, the healing patterns of the scratches on various clearcoat layers at a certain normal force were visualized by three-dimensional and one-dimensional cross-cut images using atomic force microscopy under specified temperature and healing time conditions. The surface durability provided by the PCD-HU in the clearcoat layer was confirmed by repeated scratching and healing tests on the same surface positions. Therefore, the coating layer containing HU, which possessed similar surface mechanical properties to those of conventional references, exhibited better scratch-healing performance.
(Wikipedia)

SolubilisationIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : It is known that formulations containing lipids identical to those in skin, ceramides, in particular, can enhance restoration of impaired barrier function. However, ceramides are highly hydrophobic and tend to crystallize and aggregate, resulting in gelation in cosmetic formulation. Therefore, a specific formulation is required in order to overcome such limitations and maximize the effects of ceramides on the skin.
Water dispersible powder type ceramide formula (Hydroceramide50 or Hydroceramide50s) containing above 45% of ceramide 3 was developed by Doosan's advanced Solid Lipid Particulation (SLP) technology. By controlling the size of ceramide ranging between 200-250 nm which is free of nano-safety issue without using organic solvents and large amounts of harsh surfactants, we could obtain water dispersible ceramide 3 powder formula with an increased surface area and improved solubility. In our study, the characteristics and effects of Hydroceramide on skin had been studied in comparison with conventional ceramide 3. They were structurally and morphologically characterized by TEM, CryoTEM, and differential scanning calorimetry. Particle size distribution and changes of viscosity during the storage after their application into the emulsion were also investigated. There was no significant increase in viscosity, and gelation phenomena, one of the problems in application of conventional ceramide 3, also was diminished noticeably.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHOD : Structural and morphological characteristics - Viscosity - Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) - In vitro skin permeation studies - Efficacy of skin hydration

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Two techniques relatively new to the art will be described.
Thermal scanning rheometry is valuable for measuring changes in rheological properties as a function of time for thermosetting materials, or as a function of time for thermosetting materials, or as a function of temperature for thermoplastic materials. Materials from a range of industries, including surface coatings, polymer resins, adhesives and foods, will be used to illustrate the value of the PL-thermal scanning rheometer as both a quality assurance and research and development instrument.
The use of the "thrust" apparatus in conjunction with an ACER 2000 capillary extrusion rheometer for determining pressure dependence of viscosity will be described. Results obtained for some common polymer melts will be shown, as will viscosity data for concentrated solutions of polystyrene at temperature above the boiling point of the solvent.Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5832

SédimentationIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Paint rheology is understood to play a vital role in both product performance and customer acceptance. Consequently, the ability to formulate paints having the necessary flow properties is essential for paint technologists. Experienced formulators have said that as much as half the cost of new product development can be consumed in getting the rheology right. In fact, the quality-control viscosity measurement devices in everyday use in the development laboratory are of little help in this endeavor. Among other shortcomings, most such instruments apply shear stresses which are far from those involved in important coating flow processes. The rheological properties required for a successful coating must be defined with due regard to the prevailing conditions of stress involved in application and film formation. This requires that measurements should be taken over a wide range of shear stress and timescales. The task for the applied rheologist is to bridge rheology and technology, but it is often unclear how to connect rheological data with the “real-world” performance of paints, due to the complexity of coating flows. This review in part discusses the use of controlled-stress rheometry to characterize coatings, and presents ways of applying the results effectively to the analysis of paint flow. The methodology is fundamental but not unduly time-consuming, since the objective is to provide sound yet timely guidance to formulators. Thirteen commercial semigloss latex paints were analyzed rheologically to develop correlations to paint performance. Using the method of shear stress mapping, key regions of the non-equilibrium flow curve are identified for the control of paint flow processes. With this approach, simple but strong correlations were obtained of paint flow metrics to viscosity chosen at the relevant stresses. The fact of high correlation means one can expect that an appropriate viscosity adjustment will correspondingly improve performance. It is argued that shear stress, not shear rate, is the correct independent variable both for experimentation and for the graphical presentation and analysis of viscosity data. The yield stress parameter, particle flocculation, and sedimentation are also discussed, and an oscillatory shear method of direct measurement of yield stress is described.
