Commercially available conductive polymer inks were employed, which exhibit significantly lower viscosities than conventional offset printing inks. The main focus was put on the influence of the rubber blanket, which covers the blanket cylinder of the offset printing unit, on the morphology and electrical properties of the printed conductive polymer layers. Since film splitting occurs between substrate and rubber blanket, the latter affects the amount of ink which is transferred by the printing process. The wet film thickness of the printed material was determined for different rubber blanket specifications and inking rates. In addition, the resistivity of the printed conductive polymer layer was measured after flue-curing of the samples. Further, the electrical performance on corona-treated and untreated PET substrate foils was compared.
Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Precision printing of particulate slurries with particle sizes of 5–20 µm using an indirect gravure printing, specifically with pad printing technology, offers interesting applications of functional printing on 3D surfaces. We present our results for printed electroluminescent panels (EL), where printing inks containing luminescent and dielectric particles of such comparatively huge size are transferred from a gravure printing form with gravure patterns not much larger than the particles. Compared with screen printing, the benefit of pad printing is that fairly complex and corrugated surfaces of 3D printed bodies can be endowed with a particulate functional surface. We demonstrated this using commercially available materials for electroluminescent panels. From the electrical point of view, EL panels are capacitors with a luminescent and insulation layer which enables a careful investigation of the printed surface by the characterization of their electrical and optical performance. We emphasize that the printing process we developed is not restricted to EL panels but could also be used for printing protective, electrochemically active, or radiation absorbing metal or metal oxide coatings to 3D printed fused deposition modeling polymer bodies. Printing parameters such as pad hardness, printing velocities, and pad surface tension are investigated. Further, we consider the relation between the printing process, the thickness of the insulation layer, the volume fraction of particulate BaTiO3 in this layer, and EL panel luminance. Our pad printed EL panels, using adapted ink formulations, achieved average luminance of 140 cd/m2 on curved surfaces which also corresponds to the performance standards of conventional screen printed panels.

An overview of process development and synthesis of nano calcite crystal and nano clay is presented. Synthesis of nano CaCO3 (nano calcite) was carried out using sonochemical carbonization. CO2 gas was used for carbonization of Ca(OH)2 XRD gram shows that the nano CaCO obtained under sonication process gives the particle size of 35 to 50 nm. Natural clay can be modified using quarternary salts. Due to incorporation of the intercalating agents the d spacing increases. Little amount of nanoclay can alter the entire properties of paints and inks. Rheological modifiers control the flow properties of liquid polymer systems such as paint, inks, emulsions which leads to thixotropic behavior. Slide coatingIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Slide coating is a precision method suitable for depositing multiple liquid-film layers simultaneously. Originally developed in the photographic film industry, it has been deployed for manufacturing of other products that benefit from multilayer coatings. One emerging application is the manufacture of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), which are used to produce electricity through electrochemical reactions of hydrogen and oxygen gas. The membrane-electrode assembly (MEA), in which key electrochemical reactions occur, consists of three layers that are typically deposited separately in serial fashion and then laminated together to form the three-layer MEA, i.e., three sequential steps of coat and dry. Adapting the process to simultaneous, multilayer slide coating of all three layers will save equipment cost and space while minimizing possible exposure to contaminants during transition between the steps. We are developing a three-layer slide coating model to aid the manufacturing process design of PEMFC. The model accounts for rheology of each layer, which typically exhibit shear thinning behavior. Model predictions are used to investigate simultaneous coatability of catalyst inks and to determine the best layer-by-layer ink selection. Note de contenu : - Governing equations and solution method
