StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Walnut green husk is one of the main waste products from walnut and could be used as a source of natural dyeing compounds such as juglone. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effective use of walnut green husk extract as a natural hair dye. Dyeing properties, fastness and antimicrobial behaviours of dyed hair and also a skin irritation test for natural hair dye on rat skin were examined. When the extract was mixed with ascorbic acid as a developer, ferrous sulphate as a mordant, and Aloe vera extract used as a secondary mordant and also a cosmetic ingredient, the reaction resulted in a dark-brown colour on hair samples. The dyed hair exhibited appropriate colour strength having excellent morphology for a hair surface coated with dye molecules. In addition, the dyed hair possessed good resistance to washing and daylight fastness, without any irritant properties as shown in a rat model, although high concentrations of iron-based mordant may be problematic for long-term usage. This paper also suggests the use of natural mordants such as lactic and oxalic acids to avoid any probable risks. Walnut green husk extract was an appropriate natural hair dyeing agent in practice and showed maximum antimicrobial activity compared with semi-synthetic and commercial hair dyes. The results demonstrated that walnut green husk can be used as an economical, valuable, eco-friendly and safe source of dyeing and antimicrobial agents for cosmetic products. ToucherIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The hand evaluation method has been used to characterize the handle of leather (softness, fullness and elasticity) for many years. However, there is a certain subjective element affecting the final result. It would be valuable to set up a scientific theory and find a parameterized objective test method for leather handle character. In this paper, research results were analyzed to determine whether there was a interrelation between the handle character (softness, fullness and elasticity) and mechanical parameters measured at specific technical states.
Softness can be characterized by bending coefficient (Kb) ; fullness can be characterized by compression index (Kc); stretchability by lastometer coefficient (K1) and elasticity by bending stress relaxation attenuation constant (αb) and bending stress attenuation (K). The statistical method of discriminatory two class analysis (DATC) was there adopted to characterize the handle of leather. The corresponding experiment and the application of DATC in the evaluation of leather handle character was carried out and the DATC results were found to be significant at a level greater than 99%. The findings indicate that the DATC method can be regarded as a comprehensive analysis method to, objectively and correctly, characterize the handle of leather.Note de contenu : - Interrelated research : Compressibility of leather - Bending property of leather - Lastometer property of leather

Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Production information file study - Regulation of migrants and selection - Chemicals and reagents - Calibration standard solutions - Migration assay - Sample and stimulant extraction - Apparatus - Assay validation - Analysis of interaction packaging of cosmetic product

StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this study, tree bark extracts were assessed as functional additives to provide protection in waterborne acrylic- and alkyd-based coatings. Tree bark extracts acted as natural photostabilizers and inhibited UV degradation with high UV absorption capacity. The coating systems comprising bark extracts were compared to the control coating groups comprising ultraviolet light absorbers (UVA) of the hydroxyphenyl-s-triazine (HPT) for acrylic and nonbasic amino ether (NOR) hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) for alkyd. Scots pine surfaces coated with acrylic and alkyd coatings were exposed to artificial weathering for 2016 h. Three different trees (maritime pine, alder and Calabrian pine) with high antioxidant activity and phenol content were used for this purpose. The chemical structure of acrylic and alkyd coating systems was also examined using ATR–FTIR spectroscopy. The weathering resistance of coating systems containing extracts was evaluated in terms of their color changes and surface roughness through macroscopic evaluation, and they were compared to commercial UV absorber. The lowest color change was observed in the alkyd-based coatings with the bark extract. For the alkyd coatings, the color change (∆E) in the control samples was 24.85, whereas it was found to be 4.68, 5.92 and 7.80 in the test samples containing Calabrian pine, maritime pine and alder bark, respectively. However, color stabilization of the acrylic coatings with UV absorber was found to be much better than the acrylic coatings with extracts. The alkyd coating systems with extracts did not exhibit the same performance for surface roughness. The alkyd coating with the UV absorber provided a smoother surface than that with bark extracts. The acrylic coatings with alder and maritime extracts provided the best results. Acrylic coating may be compatible with (Calabrian) bark extracts. According to the obtained results, it was seen that tree bark extracts in wood coating systems have a potential to substitute commercial UV absorbers as a natural product.
