Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of electroplating works were conducted to investigate the best conditions for the electrodeposition of nickel on a mild steel substrate. The electrodeposition was done at ambient electrolyte temperature with mild agitation and under current density ranging from 10 to 50 mA/cm2. X-ray diffraction analysis (2θ for first three peaks = 44.6, 51.9, and 76.8) and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer verified the presence of a pure nickel coating. Under field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis, the coating shows a typical nodular surface morphology, while cross-sectional microstructures show a compact nickel layer. Vickers hardness testing shows that the coating hardness gave the highest value of 293 HV at 30 mA/cm2 current density.

This part of the article presents a review of the fundamental properties and characteristics of cellulosic fibres and each of the five classes of dye employed for their coloration, as well as the essential principles involved in the application of the various types of dye to cellulosic fibres. In the next part of the article, the various theories and concepts which have been proposed to account for the promotional effect exerted by added inorganic electrolyte on dye uptake are reviewed and scrutinised, from the viewpoints of the essential physico-chemical properties of the five classes of dye that are used and the fundamental aspects of their application. Trisodium nitrilotriacétateIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : This paper presents results on the use of trisodium nitrilo triacetate, a biodegradable alkaline organic salt, for pad–steam dyeing of cotton with reactive dyes as a replacement for conventionally used inorganic electrolyte and alkali. Two widely used dyes, CI Reactive Red 147 and CI Reactive Blue 250, were used in the study. The colour yield, dye fixation and ultimate colour fastness achieved by using trisodium nitrilo triacetate were closely comparable with those obtained by using inorganic electrolyte and alkali. The tensile breaking force and wrinkle recovery angle of the dyed fabrics were also measured and were slightly improved when using organic salt. Additionally, the dyeing effluent showed reductions in total dissolved solids content with trisodium nitrilo triacetate. Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The protective quality of a coating is often measured by how long it delays the arrival of water to the substrate. The transport of water in, redistribution within, and eventually through a coating to the substrate has long been investigated through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). EIS measurements employing alternating nonaqueous (room temperature ionic liquids, RTIL) and aqueous electrolytes elucidated the behavior of water within the coating. Diffusion coefficients could be measured and the redistribution of water into percolating paths identified. The use of RTIL alternating with aqueous electrolytes allows determination of intrinsic properties (water volume fraction at saturation and relative dielectric) and kinetic properties predicted by the Brasher Kingsbury formulation. This article focuses on the sensitivity of these intrinsic and kinetic properties to test duration in an unique experimental method.
