The complex hydrophilic chain-extending agent consisted of DPSA and BDSA. The effects of the molar ratio of DPSA/BDSA on the properties of the resultant polyurethane dispersions were studied. The morphologies and properties of the ionic/nonionic PU dispersions were examined using particle-size, TEM, and viscosity analyses. It was found that the ionic/nonionic dispersions possessed wide particle-size distributions due to the addition of the complex hydrophilic chain-extending agent. The ionic/nonionic PU dispersions possessed higher solid content than conventional WPU dispersions because the number and volume percentage of the large particles and small particles of the ionic/nonionic dispersions met the requirements for high solid content. It was observed that the solid content of the ionic/nonionic dispersion increased and then decreased with an increasing molar ratio of DPSA/BDSA. When the ratio ranged from 4:10 to 5:10, the solid content of the ionic/nonionic PU dispersion reached up to 55%. It was also noticed that the apparent viscosity of the ionic/nonionic polyurethane dispersion decreased with an increasing molar ratio of DPSA/BDSA. The complex hydrophilic chain-extending agent consisting of DPSA and BDSA enhanced the solid content and decreased the viscosity of the ionic/nonionic dispersions, which are very important for improving the properties and expanding the applications of PU dispersions. In addition, the ionic/nonionic polyurethane dispersion had good electrolyte-resistance properties, stability at both high and low temperatures, and storage stability. Stabilité au stockageIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The storage stability of montmorillonite/acrylic resin was studied via rheological characterizations. The Na+–MMT nanoclay and a water-based acrylic resin were used for the preparation of different suspension samples. The effect of an associative polymer such as hydrophobically modified ethoxylated urethane (HEUR) in the mixture was also investigated. The result showed that the existence of an associative polymer has an influence on the stability and zero-shear viscosity of the system. In order to determine the behavior of this system under long-term storage, various rheological characterizations such as frequency sweep and rate sweep measurements were carried out. The results showed that adding the montmorillonite nanoclay and HEUR to the acrylic resin causes short- and long-term stabilities of suspensions microstructure. The required stability, a better flow, and a better structure were achieved, respectively, upon addition of an associative polymer, addition of MMT–Na+, and flow cessation. ViscositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A series of N-alkylated aminosulfonic acids (NASAs) were synthesized with 1,4-butane sultone and primary amines and then reacted with hexamethylene diisocyanate trimer to obtain water-dispersible polyisocyanates (WDPs). Two-component waterborne polyurethane (2K-WPU) coatings were finally prepared by the reaction of WDPs and aqueous hydroxyl resins. The structures and properties of WDPs and 2K-WPU coatings were characterized. The effects of the categories and amounts of NASAs on the properties of WDPs and 2K-WPU coatings, including viscosities, water resistance and transparency, were investigated. The results showed that the average molecular weights and viscosities of the WDPs increased with the increase in the amounts and molecular weights of NASAs. 3-(Cyclohexylamino)-1-propanesulfonic acid possesses a high molecular weight, resulting in low-concentration –SO3 per mass, so a high concentration up to 3.5 wt% was needed to meet water-dispersible requirements. On the other hand, 3-isobutylamino-1-propanesulfonic acid (IBAPS) has high-concentration –SO3 per mass and only a low concentration (2.5 wt%) was required to offer satisfactory water dispersibility. 2K-WPU film cured by IBAPS-WDP displayed high gloss, good transparency and excellent water resistance owing to suitable steric hindrance and high content of –SO3H per mass. Tannage organiqueIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Diethanolamine, epichlorohydrin (ECH), and lysine were used to change the traditional synthesis route to address the formaldehyde emission issue of melamine resin (MR), and a novel waterborne MR retanning agent with ultralow formaldehyde content (MUF) was finally obtained. The structure of MUF was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and its retanning performances in wet-blue and wet-white leathers were thoroughly investigated. Results showed that the formaldehyde content of MUF was 28.05 mg/kg, which was greatly lower than that of traditional MR (3550.23/2543.45 mg/kg), and the formaldehyde contents of chrome- and TWLZ-tanned leathers retanned by MUF were only 12.68 and 8.98 mg/kg, respectively. The thickening rates of MUF-retanned leather were up to 13.40% (chrome-tanned leather) and 9.58% (TWLZ-tanned leather), and MUF showed a satisfying overall performance in retanning leather. MUF is highly promising in practical application owing to its ultralow formaldehyde content, excellent stability in aqueous solution, and satisfactory retanning behaviors.
