Titre : Therapeutic applications of near-infrared dyes Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Mark Wainwright, Auteur Année de publication : 2010 Article en page(s) : p.115-125 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The interaction of dyes with cells and tissue is well understood, and the use of light-activated compounds in therapy is becoming more established. However, the application of near-infrared light in these areas, particularly from a therapeutic angle, has received little attention. With greatly improved access to near-infrared light sources, there is considerable potential for therapeutic advances due to the increased tissue penetration offered by wavelengths in the 700–1000 nm region, particularly regarding blood vessel disorders and larger or deeper-seated tumours. The design and development of suitably absorbing dyes to take advantage of near-infraread illumination is discussed for the major structural types. Titre : Substituent effects on the photofading of disperse azo dyes on poly(ethylene terephthalate) substrate Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Yasuyo Okada, Auteur ; Toshio Hihara, Auteur ; Mie Hirose, Auteur ; Zenzo Morita, Auteur Année de publication : 2010 Article en page(s) : p. 127-139 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The relationships between the chemical structures and oxidative fading of the disperse azo dyes, p-nitrophenylazo- and benzothiazoleazo-anilines, on poly(ethylene terephthalate) substrate are discussed in terms of the parameters k0,i (rate constants of reaction towards 1O2) and fi (photosensitivity), the molecular parameters of molecular orbital theory and substituents in the diazo and coupling components, on the assumption that the initial rates of oxidative fading are proportional to the product of k0,i and fi. 2-Methoxy-5-acetylamino-N-substituted aniline couplers exhibited large fi values. 2-Chloro and 4-nitro substituents of aniline diazo components exhibited small fi values or high quantum yields of internal conversion, while 4-nitro substituent did not. A close correlation between N-substituents and light fastness, proposed by Müller and supplemented by Dawson, demonstrates the applicability of frontier orbital theory, through the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy of the dyes, to the analysis of oxidative fading. Dyes with N-2-cyanoethyl substituents, which gave a lower HOMO energy, also exhibited superior light fastness compared with N-2-hydroxyethyl substituents. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : There are practical limitations in predicting dyebath concentrations and dyebath exhaustion using absorbance measurements from optical spectroscopy. The purpose of this paper is to examine the common assumptions of prediction models that cause prediction errors, and especially when multiple dye combinations are used. If a linear model is used to map absorbance to concentration, then five assumptions must hold: measurement repeatability, linear scaling, spectral additivity, linear independence of the constituent spectra and the absence of spectral morphing. Violation of one or more of these assumptions will lead to errors in predicting the concentrations of dyes in a dyebath and subsequent exhaustion calculations. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The introduction of bulky aryl residues into wool fibres not only enhances their disperse dyeability but also improves their settability, shrink resistance and imparts easy-care properties. It would be highly desirable for colourists to achieve such effects when dyeing or printing wool from an aqueous solution as wool/polyester blend fabrics could be dyed and printed with the same dye; furthermore, in the case of an all-wool fabric pretreated with such arylating systems, following dyeing or printing with disperse dyes, dye fixation can be achieved by dry heat procedures. A water-soluble, fibre-reactive arylating agent, sodium benzoyl thiosulphate, was therefore synthesised, characterised and its stability to hydrolysis in aqueous media was examined. Christie, Auteur Année de publication : 2010 Article en page(s) : p. 157-163 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Commercial photochromic dyes change rapidly and reversibly from colourless to coloured when activated by ultraviolet irradiation. This paper contributes towards the growing interest in the development of chromic textiles for creative design, functional or smart purposes. The optimisation of a methodology to evaluate the colouristic properties of photochromic textiles using traditional ultraviolet illumination source and colour measurement equipment is described. The experimental factors requiring careful control, including temperature and the time interval between ultraviolet irradiation and measurement, are identified. On the basis of a statistical evaluation of validity, a consistent, reproducible semi-quantitative methodology is described, which is appropriate for evaluation of the performance of commercial photochromic dyes applied to textiles, a detailed investigation of which will form the basis of subsequent papers in this series. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The performance of five commercial photochromic dyes applied by screen printing on textiles was evaluated using a colour measurement methodology which has previously been established and validated. Printing as disperse dyes on polyester gives the strongest photochromic effect when the dye is located near the surface. However, the dyes are applied more effectively using an adaptation of a pigment printing method. Several factors influencing the photochromic properties of the printed textiles were evaluated. The ultraviolet reflecting properties of cotton give a higher level of photocoloration than on polyester. In the dyes studied, the spirooxazines show slightly faster colour development and fade much more rapidly than the naphthopyrans, and the latter show a residual colour after fading. The effect of the ultraviolet irradiation wavelength profile on the photochromic response may be correlated with the ultraviolet absorption spectra of the dyes. Titre : Effect of the addition of a modifier in the supercritical dyeing of polyester Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Mauro Banchero, Auteur ; Luigi Manna, Auteur Année de publication : 2010 Article en page(s) : p. 171-175 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The aim of the work was to investigate the effect of an ethanol addition in the dyeing of a commercial polyethylene terephthalate yarn with supercritical carbon dioxide. The equilibrium uptake in the yarn and the partition coefficients of three azo dyes between the polymer and the fluid phases were experimentally measured under different working conditions and compared with the data obtained without any modifier. It was found that the presence of the modifier increases the dye concentration in the yarn and the solubility of the dye in the supercritical phase, allowing good dyeing results to be obtained under less severe working conditions. The partition coefficient data were also satisfactorily regressed with a semi-empirical correlation, available in the literature for a different system and here adapted to the partition of a dye between a fibre and a supercritical bath.
