Matériaux céramiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The best option for grinding media to obtain toughness and durability, which in turn extends bead life.
The advantages if using the highest specification grinding media in milling operations are well documented and understood. Higher density provides the potential to increase productivity, often significantly over other traditional ceramic and glass materials. Improved toughness and durability result in extended bead lifetimes and machine maintenance periods. Generally accepted as the best option is Yttria stabilised Zirconia. This material is an engineering grade ceramic, with controlled stabilisation of the zirconia phase and fine crystal grain size. The resulting beads have increased strength, fracture toughness and wear resistance.
The material tends to be favoured over other high-density forms ; particularly due to its compatibility with all machine types, reduced abrasion of mill parts and above all, its consistency of performance. The material has found particular application in demanding and high specification operations, where precision, control and contamination are of primary imporatance. It has not however, been generally adopted as an industrial standard. The main reason for this has been the high purchase price and the subsequent prohibitive cost of filling production machines.Note de contenu : - Production flow

In June 2007, after many years of political debate, a new European regulation 'concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)' came into effect (1907/2006/EC). Most flame retardants (FRs) are high volume chemicals and will have to be registered in the first tier of this new legislation. The role of FRs as functional chemicals is to prevent accidental fires and thereby protect lives and property but FRs are also a group of plastics additives, which have received major attention in environmental debates and have also been featured in the discussions leading up to REACH. This paper describes how the FR manufacturers are preparing for REACH, and which lessons from the past (EU risk assessments) may be applied to life under REACH. Polymer processors or paint formulators are also involved in REACH as downstream users of additives and chemicals.Note de contenu : - The elements of REACH
