But this will not only cost money/resources as well as time also. A better design strategy should be to minimise number of trials, efforts and randomise the trials. We can statistically extrapolate available data to the desired region and then go for a valid run. The work described in this paper has been done with this objective in mind . Three imino type melamine formaldehyde and one highly butylated melamine formaldehyde resin were synthesised under different processing condition, and using different levels of pH & melamine, formaldehyde & butanol ratios. Relative structural characteristics of these resins were determined using proton- Fourier Transfer Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. Molecular weight and its distribution were studied using gel permeation chromatography. Polyester Melamine White Enamel Paints were prepared using these Melamine Resins and their rheological properties, short term, and long term properties were checked by non-destructive methods as well as conventional methods. Based on these experimental data, authors of this paper made efforts to correlate the attributes & variables statistically and determine the optimum proportion of imino functionality required to get desired property by simple and multi-variable regression analysis and other statistical tools. Their morphology, surface treatment, surface characteristics and nano size have strengthened their applications in almost all the coatings: clear to pigmented, primer to finish, water based to solvent based, architectural to industrial etc. Even in high gloss finishes they are occupying a key ingredient position. The extenders cover a broad range of particle shape and size and also surface activity which control the functional, mechanical and aesthetic properties of a coating. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The use of tris (alkoxycarbonylamino) triazine (TACT) in acrylic, epoxy, and polyester formulations is discussed with a variety of formulations chosen to illustrate critical aspects of working with this crosslinker and the properties that can be achieved. Forhydroxy-functional backbones, primary hydroxy functionality is superior to secondary hydroxy functionality. TACT is relatively insensitive to the presence of a wide variety of catalysts, making it suitable as a modifier for formulations consisting predominantly of hydroxyfunctional polymers. TACT is not only formaldehyde-free, but also brings enhanced performance such as improved acid etch resistance and accelerated weathering. Excellent latency which is indicated by a sharp onset of cure is shown in an infrared study. With epoxy-functional polymers and suitable catalysts, TACT can react at lower temperatures (also shown using an infrared study) indicating the potential of epoxy/TACT systems to be used in formulating two component (2K) coatings. Epoxy-TACT formulations are found to give excellent mar resistance and environmental etch resistance. The epoxy-TACT combination can be used to enhance formulations, for example, the humidity resistance of a polyester formulation containing TACT was improved using addition of aliphatic epoxy.
