Polyester powder coatings flexibility can be enhanced by preparing polyesters where the glycol is a mixture of 1,3-propanediol (PDO) and neopentyl glycol (NPG). Polyesters made with PDO/NPG mixtures and 80/20terephalic/isophtalic acids have provied powder coating with promissing performance properties. Hydroxyl-capped polyesters formulated with caprolactam blocked isophorone diisocyanate crosslinking agent afforded significantly improved flexibility when NPG was partialig replaced by PDO. |
