Titre : Examination, conservation and restoration of painted art Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Timothy L. Dawson, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p 281-292 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : To conserve or restore painted artwork, it is necessary to appreciate the nature of the basic materials used in its creation, to be able to identify the pigments and the application media that were originally – or have subsequently been – applied and to understand the nature of gradual chemical and physical degradation that occurs within the various components of the system. With information thus gained, one can determine how best a painting may be cleaned, restored and ultimately be better preserved. This review covers the range of analytical techniques (mostly spectrographic), which have often been specifically developed to aid the identification of the wide range of inorganic colours and organic binders (or their degradation products) that may be present in each paint layer of an old masterpiece. Although an art gallery or museum strives to conserve the artefacts it displays, over time there will be varying degrees of mechanical or chemical damage. Cleaning (and, more controversially, restoration work) therefore becomes necessary and the much-improved methods now available for achieving this without associated adverse effects are reviewed. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The surface polymerising of fluoromonomer on dyed polyester microfibre fabric is investigated. The shade-darkening effect of perfluoropolyester acrylate polymer is discussed by colour yield, reflectance spectrum and the colour differences. The surface polymerising of fluoromonomer on dyed polyester microfibre fabric had an excellent shade-darkening effect. After surface polymerising, the dyed fabrics had no significant effect on washing and wet rubbing fastness. Erratum : There was an error in Scheme 1 of the article [1]. The following scheme was published on page 306Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : This paper describes a new method to dye cotton with selected reactive dyes by long-liquor – or so-called 'exhaustion'– processes under neutral conditions. Particularly promising results were obtained with reactive dyes containing free vinyl sulphone residues. Although there are dyes on the market that contain free vinyl sulphone groups, for example, the Novacron C (Huntsman) range of dyes, many of this class contain 'blocked' vinyl sulphone residues; examples include sulphatoethylsulphone or chloroethylsulphone precursor groups, and these may be preactivated to the highly reactive vinyl sulphone form simply by a mild alkali treatment. After this activation, neutral, long-liquor dyeings can be carried out at the boil in the presence of electrolyte. This new dyeing method gave very good results in terms of overall fixation efficiency values, without the need for alkali additions. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A bifunctional reactive disperse dye containing two temporarily anionic sulphatoethylsulphone groups was synthesised and applied to nylon 6 fabric by exhaust dyeing at a variety of pH levels and temperatures. A monofunctional reactive disperse dye containing one temporarily anionic sulphatoethylsulphone group was also synthesised, and its dyeing behaviour was compared with the bifunctional dye. The bifunctional reactive disperse dye exhibited high exhaustion and total fixation yield under alkaline conditions. The results also indicate that the introduction of two temporarily anionic sulphatoethylsulphone groups of the bifunctional dye gave an enhancement in dyeing performance compared with that of the monofunctional dye. The dyes also showed very good levelling and fastness properties on nylon 6 fabric. Khamis, Auteur ; Masha G. Savelieff, Auteur ; Fawwaz H. Jumean, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p. 317-322 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Apparent thermodynamic parameters for the hydroxy proton ionisation of Bordeaux-R were obtained in micellar solutions using the thermochromic method. The effect of addition of the surfactants CTAB, TX-100 and SDS was investigated in buffered solutions in the pH range of 6–13. Ionisation constants in water and in the presence of surfactants were determined spectrophotometrically and the pK' of Bordeaux-R in water was found to be 10.90 in the absence of surfactant. However, at concentrations above critical micelle concentration, pK' dropped to 10.14 with CTAB, increased to 11.29 with TX-100 but was insensitive to SDS addition. Standard enthalpies and entropies of ionisation were obtained using the thermochromic method. This method, in conjunction with pK and spectral measurements and comparison with different azo dyes, has been shown to provide detailed information on the mechanism of dye–surfactant interaction. Titre : Decolorisation of H-acid manufacturing process wastewater by anion exchange resin Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Zhen Yuan, Auteur ; Ping Yu, Auteur ; Yunbai Luo, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p. 323-328 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Anion exchange resin was employed to examine the feasibility to treat the H-acid manufacturing wastewater by column experiment. Besides the acidity recovery, the decoloring efficiency and chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency of the anion exchange resin was investigated in the experiments. The results revealed that the anion exchange resin was able to remove colourful pollutants and degrade a part of COD effectively, and at the same time reserve acidity in the wastewater solution. The resin regenerated by a 10% NaCl aqueous solution had the same ability to discolour and remove the COD from the wastewater as the new resin had. The resin regenerated by 3% w/w NaCl aqueous solution, which was the same concentration as seawater, also had, to some extent, the same effect on decolorisation and the removal of COD; however, its colour and COD removal performance was not as efficient as the resin regenerated by 10% w/w NaCl and the new resin. H-acid (0.25%) was also successfully recovered from the regenerating solutions. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Dye yields and fastness properties are reported for direct and reactive dyes using a modified dyeing solution with polyhydroxyurethane. Excellent dye yields and colour fastness properties were obtained without the use of electrolytes, multiple rinsing or fixation agents, which are normally employed in cotton dyeing. From the results, it was found that polyhydroxyurethane media exhibit better dyeability and fastness than the normal aqueous media. Dye adsorption in polyhydroxyurethane media was much higher than in other aqueous systems. The dyed samples showed good hot pressing and washing colour fastness properties within the color change range. The excellent solubility of these dyes in the polyhydroxyurethane aqueous solution makes them ideal for use in exhaustion dyeing. The microcapsules were characterised by their thermal properties and morphology, such as particle size and particle size distribution. The dyeing behaviour of the microcapsules on nylon 6.6 was evaluated. The microencapsulated dye exhibited good build-up, levelness and fastness properties. It has been demonstrated that microencapsulated disperse dye can be used to replace commercial disperse dyes in dyeing polyamide fabric without dyeing additives, and the resulting effluent can be easily recycled after filtration.
