Résumé : |
The first urethane resins or aqueous emulsions were prepared using relatively conventional emulsification techniques. Solvent-containing prepolymers (having free isocyanate groups) or fully reacted polymers were emulsified using proprietary surfactants. In this process, mechanical equipment that would provide the necessary shear to prepare a fine particle size system was necessary.
The later types of urethane emulsions are solvent free. By incorporating emulsifying groups into the prepolymer backbone, it is possible to prepare emulsions using conventional mixing equipment.
The chemistry of these products is reviewed. Their properties compared to conventional finishing systems for basecoats and topcoats are described. |
