This paper describes the study on the histological structure of the Chinese Hankow Goatskins. By employing the scanning electron microscope (SEM), the transmission electron microscope (TEM), and the light microscope (LM), the authors have observed the samples from various parts and layers of the goatskins. The results show such aspects of the histological characteristics of the skins as the thickness distributio of the skin, the hair and its distribution, the layers in the epidermal area, the fibre variation and interweaving orientation in the dermal area. From the results we cannot only predict the leather characteristics, eg. the grain pattern of the leather from this kind of skin, but also anticipate the problems that may arise in the processing. |
