PoudresIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : Nanoscaled materials characteristics differ from bulk materials and from micro sized powders. The higher surface area affect their chemical and physical properties, allowing the design of new materials with improved optical, thermal, mechanical, chemical, electrical performances. In the last years, the progress in the synthesis of nano-scaled materials promoted the use of nano-crystals in many different fields, for instance in optoelectronics, biomedical, energy conversion and photocatalysis. In particular, the production of photocatalytic coatings is a field of great interest, mainly because of the challenging possibilities in the environmental field given by the photodegradation of pollutant substances. On the basis of the former studies in the field of nanotechnology, dealing with metallic coatings with ceramic nano-reinforcements, this work has been conducted, in order to characterize and test the photocatalytic activity of several titanium dioxide nanopowders, compared to a common microsized powder. In this paper, the results of the characterization and the photocatalytic behaviour of the powders, and the dispersion of the powders in coatings matrixes are discussed. Spectroscopie de résonance paramagnétique électroniqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The service life and durability of nanocomposites containing fillers are affected by photocatalytic properties of these fillers, particularly narrow band gap metal oxides (NBMOs) such as titanium dioxide (TiO2). When irradiated with ultraviolet flux, NBMOs produce electrons and other species that are capable of causing rapid degradation of organic materials with which they are in contact. Electrons and holes (positively charged species) migrate to the surface and react with species to generate various free radicals. Measurement science tools for characterizing TiO2 photoreactivity using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) methods have been developed by the Engineering Laboratory (EL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and a linkage between EPR measurements and current industrial methods has been established. A database of TiO2 photoreactivity values and other data measured via the EPR methods and industrial assays has been compiled and will be accessed through a searchable software database in the NIST Standard Reference Database program—http://www.nist.gov/srd/index.cfm. The database provides fundamental photoreactivity data that can be used for product selection and development purposes to enable more reliable assessments of end-performance. PhotoréticulationIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Novel dyes based on the benzo[a]quinoxalino[2,3-c]phenazine skeleton and necessary intermediates (benzo[a]phenazine-5,6-diones) were synthesized. The heterocyclic dyes and benzo[a]phenazine-5,6-diones were characterized using 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and chemical ion (CI) mass spectrometry. Their spectral properties, such as absorption and emission spectra and fluorescence quantum yield, were also measured. Experimental results demonstrated that photolysis of benzo[a]quinoxalino[2,3-c]phenazine dyes in 2-propanol and cyclohexene oxide leads to dihydro derivatives. The same product is formed during irradiation of dye/iodonium salt photoredox pairs in monomers. These compounds absorb incident light at longer wavelength and act as in situ sensitizers. Thus, when a composition was irradiated with a xenon lamp through a 395 cutoff filter, higher conversion was achieved than under monochromatic light.
