Leather tanned with epoxy resin was considered as a more environmentally friendlyprocess, but it takes as long as five days for reaction, and results in poor performance of leather. The aim of the present study was to tan leather collagen with a carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin, which was thought to be an eco-friendly tanning process and the reaction time was shortened to 12h. The reaction between carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin and leather collagen can be divided into two stages, the reaction of epoxy group with leather collagen and the reaction of carboxyl group with leather collagen. The influences of tanning conditions (medium pH, epoxy resin amount and reaction time) on the properties of tanned leather were also discussed. In the first stage, the epoxy group was reacted with leather collagen in basic conditions. The results showed that the carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin could better penetrate into the leather fibers when the pH value was 8.5, and the best effect of tanned leather collagen was found using reaction condition of pH 7.0. In the second stage, it was the reaction of carboxyl group to leather collagen in acid conditions, and the best effect was found under the condition of pH was 3.5. Meanwhile, it provided a better tanning effect when the carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin amount was 6% and the reaction time was 12h. The chrome-less tanning process that carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin combination with 3% chrome was studied. The results showed that the hydrothermal stability and strength properties of leather tanned by carboxyl-functionalized epoxy resin with 3% chrome were close, even superior, to those of the leather produced by conventional chrome tanning with 8% chrome. Tannage Résumé : The non-pickting tanning for cattle hide upper leather was carried out with chrome-less process based on zirconium-aluminium-titanium tanning (DMT-II) in this paper. The best material offers of DMT-Il and chrome tanning agent were selected through preliminary experiments. The operating parameters in the tanning process, including the pretreatment, the temperature after basification and the final pH, were optimize using the orthogonal testing method. The chrome content of wastewater was chosen as an evaluation index. The evaluation indexes of the optimum scheme were compared with those of the conventional chrome tanning method. The shrinkage temperature of the crust leather (Ts), the chrome content of wastewater BOD5/COD and the gross mechanical property and the histological sections Were evaluated.
The results.showed that the shrinkage temperature of the crust leather could be up to 90°C when the tanning temperature was 35°C and the pH after tanning was 4.5, the chrome content of the wastewater was less than 50mgL-1. The BOD5/COD was much higher than those of the.converitional chrome tanning method. Moreover, the shrinkage temperature, mechanical properties, crust leather fibres tighter density were comparable to those of conventional chrome tanning.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Experimental procedures

(Wikipedia)

Solutions (chimie)Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : This study examines the relationship of Cr(VI) formation in leather and wool fibres to the level of Cr and the ironing temperature in double-face processing. The chromium oxide levels in both the leather and wool fibres of the skins were measured. An increase in the amount of basic chromium sulphate used was shown to increase the chromium content in both leather and wool fibres. Related to this increase, parallel increases in the amount of Cr(VI) in leather and wool fibres were detected by the analysis method - DIN 53314 (IUC 18: 1997).
Furthermore, higher temperatures during the ironing processes produced higher levels of Cr(VI) in leather and wool fibres. To eliminate any false-positive results due to the interference of dyestuffs in the Cr(VI) determination with dark coloured extracts, Br2/water solutions were added to extract solutions and the measurements were repeated in the transparent extracts. A comparison of the results revealed that in the extracts with Br2/water addition, Cr(VI) values were lower and it was concluded that Br2/water solution eliminated the dyestuff interference and, therefore the false-positive results.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Double-face processing - Cr2O3 Analysis and Cr(VI) determinations - Decolorising the extract by Br2/water addition - Reaction mechanism of Br2/water

Spectrométrie de masseIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : A novel method using low pressure ion chromatography coupled with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LPLC-ICP-MS) has been developed for the determination of water-soluble chromium(III) and chromium(VI) in waste water. The low pressure anion exchange column used in this system contained quaternary ammonium groups, which could separate the Cr(III) from Cr(VI). The ICP-MS was used as the detector in this coupled system to detect the concentration of chromium. The linear range of this method was 10.0ng.L-1~1.0mg•L-1 ; the detection limit of Cr(III) was 3.5ng.L-1, Cr(VI) was 9.8ng•L-1(pH=7) ; the precision of Cr(III) was 2.1%, Cr(VI) was 4.6% (n=6). Compared with National Standard Method of China reste the error was ±6%. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Reagents - Apparatus - Analytical procedure

SpectrophotométrieIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : A new flow injection spectrophotometric method for determination of chromium(VI) in tannery wastewater is introduced. The proposed method is based on the oxidation of bordeaux red by chromium(VI) in acidic media. The absorbance was registered at 520nm. Under the optimum conditions, the linear range for chromium(VI) was 0.10-10.0mg/L. The detection limit was 0.02mg/L. The relative standard deviation (n = 11) for 2.0 mg/L chromium(VI) was 1.37 %. This method is simple, accurate, sensitive and rapid. The method was applied to the determination of chromium(VI) in tannery wastewater with satisfactory results.
