Résumé : |
Several commercial flame retardants were applied to leather, and then the leathers were tested by ALCA method E50, and by the Oxygen-Index Test Method. Critical factors which would be expected to affect the flame resistance of leather directly were studied also. Various type of fatliquors were examined. The method of application of the flame retardant was tested by dipping the leather in or spraying it with these materials. A broad spectrum of flame retardants was studied so that most theoretical mechanisms of flame resistance would be examined. The numerical results of the flame-resistance tests have been evaluated statistically in order to rank the effectiveness of the various flame retardants and process variations. This study should help to further the objective in leather manufacture of minimizing destruction when exposed to flame. |
