Résumé : |
Treating tannery waste water economically is possible, but many factors influence the cost. They include: discharge limitations, product mix (leather),landfill costs, and type of treatment system. Each Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) has charges for suspended solid, BOD, flow and sometmes nitrogen.Landfill or land application costs can vary by as much as 1,000 percent. This paper examines various operating parameters found in the leather tanning industry allowing an operator to compare his operations with others. It details discussion of systems in use and how the specific equipment and chemistry influence the overall treatment costs. Chrome recovery, water reuse,BOD reduction, sludge drying, and other concepts are discussed. The future for the industry with regards to meeting future pollution control regulations looks very good. There is every reason to be optimistic about meeting the long term, more stringent regulations certain to come. |
