The reactivity of trivalent chronium salts towards collagen, the principle protein in animal skins, was investigated in organic solvent media in the presence of lamb skins of controlled water content. The effect of different factors, especially the nature of basifying agent, on tanning was studied in detail. Complete exhaustion of tanning baths with higher binding of chronium to skins was obtained in these media than in traditional. |
