SolubilitéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A self-stratifying coating is an economical coating containing multiresinous components with different functional groups, which spontaneously stratify after application to the substrate. These coating systems could be composed of two or more different layers to protect substrates against corrosion, by first layer, and simultaneously to create a desirable appearance, by second layer, with decorative properties. Conventional multilayer coating systems encounter some problems such as poor interfacial adhesion, application, and labor costs and also lengthy processing time. The concentration gradient of two layers would eliminate the inter-coating boundary which can be the point of failure in conventional coatings. In this paper, the surface tension and solubility theory regarding these coatings are discussed. In addition, the effects of different factors on the pigment location into the coating systems are studied. The main factors, including curing mechanisms, substrate effects, thickness, viscosity, kinetics of reaction, evaporation rate of solvents, dispersing agents, and surface properties of pigments have been reviewed. The models for prediction of self-stratifying coatings such as UNIFAC and computer simulation have also been addressed and taken into consideration. The prospect of these coatings and their application in different industries is presented. In this study, we investigate the shaping characteristics of the alginate hydrogel by a spraying method for application to the coating. Sodium alginate droplets from the spraying nozzle are known to be differently shaped by several external forces during the encapsulation process when such a droplet impacts onto the surfaces of liquid containing calcium ions. We adopted a two-fluid spraying method for fast alginate droplets with a scalable size suitable for mass production. Various shapes, such as mushroom, petal, sphere, and thin-sheet alginate hydrogel shapes containing liposomes, were obtained via this experimental approach. Supported by a theoretical analysis, we determined regimes for the various shapes depending on the droplet size and the concentration of the sodium alginate solution. Alginate hydrogel of different shapes based on the regimes will be used for the coating throughout a different post-processing. SiliceLa silice est la forme naturelle du dioxyde de silicium (SiO2) qui entre dans la composition de nombreux minéraux.
La silice existe à l'état libre sous différentes formes cristallines ou amorphes et à l'état combiné dans les silicates, les groupes SiO2 étant alors liés à d'autres atomes (Al : Aluminium, Fe : Fer, Mg : Magnésium, Ca : Calcium, Na : Sodium, K : Potassium...).
Les silicates sont les constituants principaux du manteau et de l'écorce terrestre. La silice libre est également très abondante dans la nature, sous forme de quartz, de calcédoine et de terre de diatomée. La silice représente 60,6 % de la masse de la croûte terrestre continentale.Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : To protect surfaces against marine biofouling, the continuous leaching of biocides, such as cuprous oxide (Cu2O) and copper pyrithione (CuPT), from antifouling coatings is a widespread and effective method. However, from an environmental and economic perspective (costs of raw materials), a high biocide loading of formulations is not sustainable. Silica aerogel-encapsulated CuPT is a promising approach to reduce Cu2O and CuPT loadings without compromising the mechanical properties and antifouling performance of the coating. In the present study, silica aerogels, with varying CuPT loadings, were incorporated into model coating formulations, and selected coating properties, i.e., rheology, water absorption, and hardness, were measured and evaluated. Furthermore, to demonstrate antifouling performance, static exposure testing with the aerogel-containing coatings was performed. The level of CuPT loading of the silica aerogels did not have a significant influence on neither the water absorption nor the rheology of the coating. However, an increase in the CuPT loading of the aerogel from 0 to 80 wt% reduced the coating’s pendulum hardness from 61 to 37 s. Additionally, compared to a reference coating with nonencapsulated CuPT, results demonstrate that a coating containing silica aerogel-encapsulated CuPT provides a 17% higher antifouling resistance when evaluated according to guidance from The European Chemicals Agency. PolydiméthylsiloxaneLe polydiméthylsiloxane —[O-Si(CH3)2]n—, ou poly(diméthylsiloxane) selon la nomenclature systématique, communément appelé PDMS ou diméthicone, est un polymère organominéral de la famille des siloxanes souvent présent dans les shampoings. On l'y ajoute pour augmenter le volume des cheveux mais il peut également aller boucher les pores du cuir chevelu et rendre les cheveux gras. C'est une des raisons pour lesquelles se laver les cheveux tous les jours est très déconseillé avec un shampooing contenant des silicones.
Il existe également de l'amodiméthicone, qui est un dérivé du diméthicone.
Le polydiméthylsiloxane est un additif alimentaire (E900), utilisé comme antimoussant dans les boissons (Coca-Cola BlāK).
La chaîne de poly(diméthylsiloxane) forme également la structure de base des huiles et des caoutchoucs silicones.

Efficient and economical methods for field testing and screening of novel foul-release coatings are needed to address performance and stability. Short-term tests that challenge coatings with heavy fouling conditions, by employing small coupons, are desirable to coating developers as this method allows many formulations to be screened at lower material cost and time. By coupling the field test to a miniature waterjet cleaning test, foul-release coatings may also be assessed for ease of fouling removal. Here, the feasibility of using small coupons over large panels for screening of foul-release coatings in static immersion field tests is investigated. Experimental and commercial foul-release coatings were field tested using a large panel, long term (1 year) test and a small coupon, short term (1 month) test. Results were very similar between the two assays, with each clearly distinguishing coating that performed well from those that performed poorly. The method may serve as a useful initial screen for early stage coatings.
