Propionique diméthylol, AcideIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Finishing with traditional polyurethane finishing agents often dramatically drecreases the permeability of finished leathers. Continuing attempts have been made in recent years to develop aqueous polyurethanes (PU) finishing agents with better overall balance of properties while retaining characteristic high durability. Research in our industry has also included many studies to optimize use of the collagen available from chrome shavings. Collagen hydrolysate may contain a number of hydrophilic groups such as carboxylic, hydroxylic, amino, imino, and amide. The reactions between these collagen hydrolysate active groups and the urethane reactive groups (-NCO) resulted in the synthesis of new polyurethane finishing agents which offered increased permeability. The optimum collagenhydrolysate modifying condition forthis polyurethane finishing agent was found to be : DMPA, 5 % of the monomers by weight, reaction temperature of 80°C and reaction time of 2.5 hours. When the collagen hydrolysate is in the range of 0.6-0.8 % of IPDI by weight, a range of good properties is achievable. For example, when collagen hydrolysate is 0.6 % of IPDI by weight, the modified polyurethane finishing agent has high strength appropriate for use in basecoat or topcoat finishes. When the collagen hydrolysate is 0.8 % of IPDI by weight, the modified polyurethane finishing agent has good elongation at break and extensibility, indicating a potential aplication in leather sealing finishes.

Propionique diméthylol, AcideIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Alkyds resins have proven themselves both from a cost and performance point of view over a wide range of coatings applications for architectural metal, wood industrial, agricultural and construction equipments. As alkyd paints are solvent-borne, they contribute to Volatile Organic Content (VOC) emissions. Increasing concerns regarding ground level ozone and indoor air quality have spurred research activities to find alternative technologies to lower VOC emissions without compromising performance. This has proven to be a major challenge for the coating industry as the key issue is reformulating solvent borne paints having lowest possible VOC while delivering expected performance benchmarks. Designing high solid coatings derived for hyperbranches polymers, sucrose polyesters, di methylol propionic acid (DMPA) and waterborne alkyds are a few concepts which can be used for a sustainable and environment friendly coatings without sacrificing the performance.
• limiter le fluage ;
• limiter le taux de matières volatiles ;

Tannage Résumé : A collagen-based waterborne polyurethane retanning agent was prepared by prepolymerization, using isophorone diisocyanate polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMG, Mn-2000), 1, 4-butanediol (BDO), dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) and triethylamine (TEA), the collagen powder was added during the synthesis to modify the waterborne polyurethane. The collagen-based waterborne polyurethane was characterised via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-1R) and size analysis, the results showed that the collagen was grafted onto the main chain of polyurethane, the emulsion had a.uniform particle size distribution, the average particle size was 70nm. The prepared emulsion was used in retanning, the application result showed that the collagen-based waterborne polyurethane retanning agent had a good affect for leather filling, especially in the belly. The shrinkage temperature, tensile strength and tear resistance were all raised. The retannage can also help to overcome the question of pastel shades.
Vapeur d'eauIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : A water-based thermally-responsive polyurethane (TRPU), based on the crystalline soft segment from the reaction of polycaprolactone diol (PCL) with isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) and the crystalline hard segment from the reaction of IPDI -1,4-butanediol (BDO) together with dimethylolpropionic acid (DMPA), was synthesized and used in water vapour permeable leather finishing.
Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analyzer (DMTA), water swelling and water vapour permeability (WVP) were measured to evaluate how the structure of PU and the temperature influence the WVP of PU films and finished leathers.
In contrast to common polyurethane elastomer (PUE) with an amorphous reversible phase, the TRPU with a crystalline reversible phase shows a phase-separated structure and a phased transition temperature (Ttrans) at normal use temperature. The water swelling and water vapour permeability of both TRPU film and finished leather are found to depend on the inner structure of the polymers and the temperature. When the temperature exceeds the Ttrans, a significant increase of WVP from 4100g/m2/day to 10500g/m2/day was observed for finished leather in spite of some decrease of WVP compared with un-finished leather. Leather finished with common PUE appears to have a low WVP and only a slightly increased value over the temperature range.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE : Material, preparation of polyurethane and testing - Film casting and leather specimen preparation - Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and
