Beauty was only one aspect of the Greek word komes, which means harmony. Cosmetics also have social, philosophical, cultural, and historical aspects that go back from the times of the pharaohs, the Romans, the Greeks, and the Arabs, through the medieval and Elizatethan periods and into modern times. The cosmetic industry is one of the most flourishing industries in the world and helps to create jobs and research opportunities for thousands of people.
