Résumé : |
The concept of wet white pretanning as an environmentally friendly technique for chrome reduction has been with us for some time. It was first recommended as lons ago as the late 1970's/early 1980's. Since its initial introduction to the leather industry a number of chemical companies have developed materials for use as pretanning agents. These materials have all had the same goal-namely the reduction of chrome in the effluent via reducedchrome usage. They have also had the aim of reducing chrome in the solid waste stream via completion of the splitting and shaving operations prior to chrome tannage.
Despite numerous development programs by both independent research units and chemical companies the concept has never reached its full potential. This paper will review the advantages and disadvantages of the wet white system. It will also attempt to answer the question of why the concept has never been fully accepted by the industry. |
