Résumé : |
Brine-cured hides, fleshed at packing plants, were given an enzyme soak and a reduced-sulfide hair brun, using a process studied earlier. Swelling, measured after relime for whole hides, showed that lighter-weight hides swelled more than did heavier-weight hides. Results of swelling studies for small shoulder samples cut from the brine-cured hides showed there were a few hides other than lighter-weight hides that had a considerable amount of swelling.Bull hides swelled more than did steer and heifer hides in cases where hides had the same brine-cured weight. White weight gains, if used for calculing chemical weights or for estimating tannery yields, could be in error because of these variations in amounts of swelling of hides. |
