Many specifiers and applicators have utilized the cost effectiveness and life to first maintenance of the Siloxane two coat systems (i.e. zinc rich epoxy or inorganic zinc rich primer) in preference to the use of three or more coat systems.
Having Si-O bonds, it provides excellent resistant properties. Organic modification such as epoxy/acrylic polysiloxane provides optimum performance as well as reduced application cost. It has excellent gloss retention as compared to state of the art aliphatic polyurethane coatings.Note de contenu : - Why are siloxane coatings unique ?

Immersion and polarization tests were conducted to evaluate the ability of CoMOF-BTA to resist corrosion on AA2024-T3 alloy in NaCl solution. In addition, CoMOF-BTA particles were incorporated into polyurethane coatings to produce active anti-corrosion coatings, whose corrosion protection capabilities were assessed using electrochemical methods and salt spray analysis. The impedance results show that polyurethane coatings containing CoMOF-BTA have coating resistances (Rcoat) that are around two orders of magnitude higher than that without the CoMOF-BTA particles. The salt spray analysis also indicates the corrosion protection ability of coatings containing CoMOF-BTA particles after a long period of exposure. The results demonstrate that CoMOF-BTA improved the ability of AA2024-T3 to resist corrosion and confirm the anti-corrosion properties of CoMOF-BTA-laden coatings by the controlled release of BTA molecules in NaCl solution. This study offers a new anti-corrosion MOF material and active coating for the protection of aluminum alloys against corrosion. Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Anodization is a prominent surface treatment for light alloys that has been successfully used in the industry for the last two decades as it provides effective corrosion and wear protection. However, anodic films have porous structures, and the period of corrosion protection is limited by the nature of anodic pores, through which corrosive species may enter and reach the substrate surface. To seal the anodic porous layer, various post-anodization treatments have been developed. The most commonly employed post-treatments are the layered double hydroxide (LDH), sol–gel, hydrothermal, and cerium-based methods. Recent research revealed that after applying these post-treatments to various anodized magnesium alloys, the corrosion resistance of the resulting coatings is sufficiently enhanced because the post-layers seal the pores in the anodic thin films. This article reviews the recent research progress regarding post-anodization coatings formed on anodized magnesium alloys. Furthermore, the corrosion protection performance and microstructural changes of the resulting coatings are elucidated. The LDH method was found to be the most beneficial sealing treatment, as the treated anodized specimens demonstrated excellent corrosion resistance and a significant self-healing effect. In contrast, less satisfactory protection properties were obtained using the sol–gel, hydrothermal, and cerium-based sealing methods. The lack of coverage on sharp edges can compromise a coating’s performance. One of the major failures is rust/corrosion resulting from these exposed edges. Several approaches exist as solutions, both from the manufacturing standpoint and from a coatings/technical perspective. A well-known strategy in manufacturing involves the rounding off of sharp edges on parts prior to coating application. However, this adds significant cost from the manufacturing side. From the coatings standpoint, two-coat systems are the standard for many customers, but this requires two separate oven bakes, adding complexity to the process. This under layer doesn’t always apply at appropriate thicknesses that result in any true protection of those areas. Dry-on-dry approaches remove the double-bake complexity, but the performance hasn’t been found to be a match to the two-bake process. Furthermore, the difficulty in applying dry-on-dry technology makes it a less attractive choice. It is evident that innovation opportunities exist in improving on high-edge coverage.
Our team has developed a new, one-coat, direct-to-pretreated metal powder innovation which exceeds the corrosion protection performance of current technologies. This paper provides an overview of our approach toward the development of this new product.Note de contenu : - The Challenge of Edge Protection

Réticulation (polymérisation)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Corrosion protection is a key requirement for steel in numerous applications like automotive, ACE, construction, appliances and metal furniture.
Traditionally the area of corrosion protective paints is dominated bu epoxy-systems (liquid and powder), however to further reduce the usage of bisphenol-A and improve worker safety, there is a trend to lower the amount of epoxy paints used, for instance, by switching to other systems like polyester-based powder coatings. For several years DSM scientists have worked on the development of polyester resins that perform equally well better than current epoxy systems.Note de contenu : - Effects of cure
