TempératureIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Higher temperatures favour chrome fixation, a conclusion reached on the basis of practical observations, laboratory and small scale trials. This phenomenon has now been investigated on the strength of an analysis of full scale commercial production of leather over an extended period of time. Titre : Amphoteric tanning : the possibility of a new approach to vegetable tanning Type de document : texte imprimé Année de publication : 1993 Article en page(s) : p. 54 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Composés amphotériques
Tannage Résumé : In a previous article, James Lewis Associates proposed that environmental concern could result in vegetable tanning extracts becoming the preferred tanning agent again and vetetable tanned leathers regaining their once dominant position in the world leather industry. The article postulated that the vegetable tanning industry including both producers of tanning extracts and vegetable leather tanners now had the opportunity to carry out a fundamental reappraisal of their position in the leather industry. In this article they discuss the possibility of a new approach to vegetable tanning. Tannage au chromeIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Although there have been many different approaches to fully or partially replace chromium salis in tanning, approximately 90% of all leathers made throughout the world are from full chrome production. These leathers find uses in many areas, but the major outlet is still for shoe manufacture with die leathers made from bovine hides.
As the process develops in each tannery, many individual factors have to be taken into account. In today's market, in addition to being competitive in terms of price, die process has to provide a base for consistency in the final leathers and needs to be in tune with customer demands, frequently shaped by environmental pressures.
With full consideration being given to these objectives, the prime factor affecting the approach to the chrome tannage is die tanning unit, with the process vessel at die heart of the operations.Note de contenu : - The tanning vessel

Titre : Expectations and achievement in shoe leathers Type de document : texte imprimé Année de publication : 1993 Article en page(s) : p. 58-60 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Chaussures
CuirIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Sometimes the expectations of the shoe manufacturer are not matched by the achievements of the tanner, which can lead to complaint. This may be due to changes in the methods of shoe manufacture, or a difference in the properties of the leather supplied.
Reasonable standards can be expected by the shoe manufacturer, but these need to be closely defined when leathers are needed for an unusual construction or to meet a particular specification. Clear two-way dialogue in the early stages of setting up a newlMe can establish realistic expectations and define the major needs of the shoe construction.
Leather is very versatile but is subjected, through necessity, to very extreme conditions in manufacturing a shoe. If a leather is known to have a limitation in one of its properties, this does not necessarily mean that it is unusable. The techniques of shoe construction may be able to accommodate this factor and it is possible that by using the leather in a slightly different way a satisfactory article can be made.
Where regular leather supplies are used Both parties are capable of creating problems, but for the tanner to best provide leathers that meet the expectations of the shoe manufacturer, it might be helpful to consider their main causes of complaint. These problems can then be addressed and changes made in manufacture and supply if appropriate.Note de contenu : - Areas of dissatisfaction

Tannage -- Appareils et matérielsIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé :
If Lime can be taken as a positive sign of company evolution, Canbar Inc, Canada, can be considered as a success at it now celebrates 121 years since being founded by Mr. Charles Mueller in 1872.
In 1920 the company expanded its activities from the manufacture of wooden vats and tanks for the paper, mining and food processing industries through involvement with the leather industry, and this association has continued until the present.
Wooden drums were produced as large as 4.3 x 4.3 metres, but in the 1950s the company became interested in using alternative materials in the construction of tanning equipment. The choice of fibreglass reinforced polyester presented an interesting challenge as the manufacturing techniques were very different from those used with traditional materials. It was felt, however, that the versatility and the corrosion resistance offered by this material could provide distinct advantages to the tanning industry.
Experience was gained through the manufacture and use of fibreglass belt driven drums, and the relatively untried material proved successful in the severe conditions found in tanneries.Note de contenu : - Fig. 1 : Heavy-duty power end assures continuous operation

Tannage Résumé : The types of leather employed for the fabrication of fancy goods such as purses, trinket boxes and artisan gifts, range from finely finished chrome tanned leather to die unpigmented natural vegetable tanned, the sort that leaves the layman in no doubt that it is indeed 'real leather'. Man has used leather as a utilitarian material for thousands of years. With his instinct to decorate his belongings the long tradition of adding to the natural beauty of leather has continued through Me centuries. Note de contenu : - Preparation for tannage

OutillageIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The expression of individuality against a more stereotyped lifestyle can be seen in the increasing use of leathers in artwork. This is illustrated in the carving and tooling of leathers used across a Ovide range of leathergoods and is not limited pither by dut style of the artwork or the final use of the article. This might range from the purely decorative works of art to enhancement of everyday goods such as belts and bags. Examples of the tooling of leathers have been found in the Middle East dating from around four thousand years ago when it was widely used in decorative battle saddles, shields and leather helmets.
