Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Photochromic materials have a variety of functional and fashionable applications. So far there are no reports of attempts to produce photochromic leather that can change color after exposure to daylight or UV irradiation. In this paper, the application of a specifically-synthesized photochromic acid dye is reported used for the direct coloration of leather, in terms of dyeing, printing and surface coating. The leather obtained successfully changed color under UV irradiation and thus has the potential to be used as fashionable gloving, garment or special types of upper leather and for a variety of other applications in leather and allied industries. A study is reported of the color build up after UV irradiation or sunlight exposure on the photochromic leather, evaluated using color measurement techniques, in relation to a range of processing factors. Wash fastness and photo-stability properties of the photochromic leather were evaluated using specially developed techniques. Tannage Résumé : Experiments using hide powder and hide samples were carried out to study the diffusion and fixation stages of vegetable tanning. The tannin offer and kinetic conditions were varied. The tannin offer and kinetic conditions were varied. The tannin content was determined by the following methods : (a) near infrared range spectroscopy (NIR), for analysis of leather and residual bath ; (b) determination of tannin content by difference of solids content in residual bathbefore and after tanning. This work demonstrates that the NIR spectroscopy is acceptable for carrying out analyses of leather in an efficient way by enabling the accomplishment of multiple measurements both on the surface and within the leather cross-section. The tanning of hide powder was completed in 120 minutes, while the diffusion through the hide thickness and fixation takes 24 hours to be completed. The amount of vegetable tannin to apply is between 74 and 106 % in terms of tan content. Titre : Removal of available decorin core-protein from powdered bovine hide by treatments used to process intact hides into leather Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : S. M. Mozersky, Auteur ; Renée J. Latona, Auteur ; William N. Marmer, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p. 222-226 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Using a modification of a previously developed sandwich Elisa procedure to measure decorin core-protein (DCP), we determined the available decorin content of a sample of raw powdered bovine hide before and after treatment with the reagents used in the early steps of the process for converting a hide into leather. (“Available” refers to the availability of the decorin for interaction with the antibodies used in the Elisa procedure.) We found approximately 0.16 mg available decorin/g hide in the raw powdered hide. Treatment with liming reagents resulted in a drop of 99.7 +0.3/-0.6 % in available decorin content. The results suggest further investigations on intact hide samples to establish whether decorin removal is restricted by diffusion. Titre : Influence of sweat-soaking on the thermal stability of retanned and fatliquored cattlehide collagen fibers Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Pengxiang Jia, Auteur ; Keyong Tang, Auteur ; Jinglong Liu, Auteur ; Xuejing Zheng, Auteur Année de publication : 2007 Article en page(s) : p. 227-233 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Chrome tanned cattlehide collagen fibers were retanned and fatliquored by different chemicals. The samples were immersed in artificial sweat for 3 to 15 days. The sweat-soaked collagen fibers were then heated in air. The shrinkage temperature (Ts) and shrinkage ratio were recorded to characterize the thermal stability of the collagen fiber samples. It was found that the shrinkage ratio decreased after the processes of retanning and fatliquoring. After sweat-soaking treatment, the shrinkage temperature of the retanned and fatliquored collagen fibers was decreased and shrinkage ratio was increased, indicating an impaired thermal stability. The Ts decreased with the increase of the sweat soaking time. The chrome retanning liquor and GTA retanned collagen fibers exhibit slow decrease of shrinkage temperature with the increase of sweat-soaking time, showing great resistance to sweat. Compared with that fatliquored by other fatliquoring agents studied, collagen fibers fatliquored by neats- foot oil has better sweat-resistant property.
