ThermochromieIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Thermochromic dyes and pigments offer significant potential for functional and aesthetic design of smart textile materials and in the area of the leather industry potential application of thermochromic pigment dispersions opens up a new issue. In this study, thermochromic pigments were applied in the leather finishing process in order to obtain leathers changing colour with temperature and their potential for innovative design concepts accompanied with an evaluation of technical features of the materials is presented. Two thermochromic pigments, providing colour change at 15°C and 31°C were applied at different proportions in the base-coat of the finishing process. The colour measurements and colour change of the thermochromic leathers were determined by a Minolta CM-3600d spectrophotometer bath prior to and subsequent to the rubbing fastness tests.
To and fro rubbing, crockmeter and light fastness properties of leathers were examined according to TS EN ISO 11640, ASTM D5053 and ISO 105-B02 standards respectively. Leathers coloured with thermochromic pigments showed a significant color changing effect depending on temperature and, as expected, the thermochromic effect was improved by a higher thermochromic pigment proportion in the finishing formulation. Fastness properties of thermochromic leathers, except light fastness, were found to be adequate compared to conventionally finished leathers. The findings suggest that the thermochromic pigments could be alternatively used with concentional conventional pigments in leather finishing applications according to leather fashion trends and different designs of leather products in addition to technical leathers and textiles in the field of medical and protective wear applications.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS

Textiles et tissusIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The technical performance of five selected commercial photochromic dyes applied by screen-printing on textiles was evaluated using a colour measurement methodology that has previously been established and validated. The results of wash fastness assessments were distinctly unusual. With the selected spirooxazine dyes, the degree of photocoloration increased with initial washing and decreased with subsequent washings, while the naphthopyrans behaved more normally, showing a consistent marginal decrease in photocoloration with repeated washing. An explanation is proposed consistent with scanning electron microscopy examination of the binder film degradation and with the structural differences between the dye classes. The dyes in this application showed limited photostability. The incorporation of ultraviolet absorbers was found to increase photostability only to an extent specific to particular ultraviolet absorber/dye combinations. However, the presence of the ultraviolet absorber led to a consistent reduction in the degree of photocoloration of the dyes. In contrast, the incorporation of hindered amine light stabilisers significantly enhanced the photostability of the dyes, providing an increase in resistance to photodegradation of up to fivefold. Pigmentation des cheveuxIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Objectives : To study (i) the diversity of the natural colour of the human hair through both visual assessment of hair tone levels and colorimetric measurements of hair strands collected from 2057 human male and female volunteers, from 23 regions of the world and (ii) the correlation between visual assessments and colorimetric measurements.
Methods : Hair strands were analysed by a spectrocolorimeter under the L*, a*, b* referential system and scored in vivo by experts before sampling, through standardized visual reference scales based on a 1–10 range.
Results : Results show that from a typological aspect, black or dark brown hairs largely predominate among studied ethnic groups, whereas Caucasian or derived populations exhibit the widest palette of medium to fair shades, partly explaining some past interbreeding among populations. Instrumental measurements clearly confirm that a given colour of a pigmented hair, at the exclusion of red hairs, is mostly governed by two components, L* and b*, from the L*, a*, b* reference system.
Conclusion : The comparisons between visual assessments and instrumental data show that these appear closely linked. Darker hairs show close or subtle variations in L*, a*, b* parameters, making their individual colour differentiation calling for technical improvements in colorimetric measurements. Glucose oxydaseLa glucose oxydase (GOx, GOD) est une enzyme oxydo-réductase (EC 1.1.3.4) qui catalyse l'oxydation du glucose en peroxyde d'hydrogène et en D-glucono-δ-lactone. Dans les cellules, elle participe à cliver les sucres (oses), notamment le saccharose (Glc-Fru) en métabolites.
La GOx est largement utilisée pour déterminer la concentration en glucose libre dans les fluides corporels (diagnostic), et dans les aliments (industrie). Elle a de nombreuses applications en biotechnologies, typiquement les tests enzymatiques de biochimie.

Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Glucose oxidase is a type of enzyme that converts glucose into hydrogen peroxide and gluconic acid by enzymatic reaction. Glucose oxidase is widely used in industry; however, in the textile industry, glucose oxidase has only received academic interest. Previously, wool was bleached by some reducing agents; however, currently in industry, hydrogen peroxide dominates the bleaching of wool fibres. In this study, the effect of glucose oxidase enzyme treatment on wool merino fibres and dyeability properties was investigated. Wool fibres were treated with glucose oxidase enzyme, after which the whiteness index (Stensby) and yellowness index (ASTM D 1925 and ASTM E 313) were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy were used to identify the morphological structure of wool fibres and their atomic content. The chemical damage caused by enzyme was investigated using a fluorescence and a light microscope, and the alkali solubility (ASTM D 1283) was determined. After enzymatic treatment, the wool fibres were dyed at a 2.0% concentration with reactive dyes. Dyeability (K/S) and CIELab values were assessed with a Minolta CM 3600 D spectrophotometer (D65, 10°). The washing fastness of wool fibres was investigated according to TS EN ISO 105-C06 (A1S).
