The annular rotating-die was employed to study the effect of the mandrel rotating speeds on the extrudate swell behavior of HDPE parison in single screw extruder at a test temperature of 210°C. The results of experiment found that rotation of mandrel caused significant change in dimension of HDPE parison after it flowed out from the annular rotating-die. It was also found that at the same apparent shear rate, the diameter swell decreased with increasing mandrel rotating speed whereas the thickness swell yielded opposite results. These results could be explained by the change of flow direction during the flow of HDPE melt in the annular rotating-die. Furthermore, the annular rotating-die technique proposed in this research could be applied in adjusting size of diameter and thickness and in predicting thickness of HDPE parison during extrusion with no need to change any production parameter in the polymer extruder. Traction (mécanique)Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : This article proposes a novel extruder based on converging-diverging flow for polymer processing. The extruder is composed of four vane plasticizing and conveying units (VPCU) and three mixing units. The working principle of the new extruder is described in detail. Film was produced on this machine by using of CaCO3 filled LDPE composites. The film's mechanical properties were studied in terms of tensile strength and tear strength. The microstructure of the composites was studied in terms of SEM. The thermo-mechanical history of the material suffered in this extruder can be remarkably shortened in contrast to a single screw extruder with the same maximum output. Experimental results showed that the die pressure has little effect on output. More CaCO3 can be filled into the blend without degrading the parts performance. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : 1. Matières plastiques -- ExtrusionIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : An intermeshing co-rotating twin-screw extruder is widely used for producing polymer composites. In order to satisfy properties of the composites, it is important to understand mixing performance of segments. In this study, we discussed mixing performance of special rotor segments commercially named VCMT (various clearance mixing technology) by using a numerical analysis method. The several tip clearances of VCMT work for achievement of both self-cleaning and effective mixing. We adopted a particle tracking method to obtain the following two evaluation indices; 1) residence time for the evaluation of its uniformity and 2) maximum 1st principal stress for the evaluation of dispersive mixing. And we evaluated mixing performance of VCMT by using probability distributions of each index. Moreover, we proposed weighted probability distributions as theoretically better evaluation. The probability distributions of VCMT were compared with those of two kinds of kneading disk segments (KDs). From the comparison, it was found that the probability of VCMT in large 1st principal stress region is higher than those of KDs. As a conclusion, VCMT has better mixing performance than KDs for the geometries and operating conditions that were investigated. PolyéthylèneIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Like plastics manufacturing and processing, the recycling of plastic products requires specialization to be efficient. Accordingly, a Dutch company has dedicated itself entirely to the recycling of agricultural and packaging films – and invested in a machine technology, which was found along tortuous ways. Note de contenu : - The export of plastic waste to china came on a halt

- Fig. 1 : At the heart of the MAS extrusion technology is the conical twin-screw extruder with co-rotating screws developed by its founder Helmuth Schulz. Advantages of this type of extruder are the large feed opening, which allows the efficient intake of raw materials with low bulk density, as well as the low-pressure plasticization - both prerequisites for gentle recycling.
- Fig. 2 : From bale to granulate: in the sorting process, foreign material is first removed from the dissolved film bales, then the films are separated according to color class or material quality. This is used to produce unmixed bales. Cutting mills process them into flakes, wich are then fed batch-wise to the DRD dry cleaners to remove granular soiling and moisture. The cleaned and dried foil flakes pass through buffer storage to the cascade extruders. Stations vivible in the picture are the single-screw extruder, the fine filter and the granulation.
