vision des couleursIndex. décimale : 535.6 Couleur Résumé : The quality of a light source can be measured against various criteria – colour rendering, durability, etc. Another criterion is the quality of the colour of the objects it illuminates. Traditionally, this aspect has been associated almost exclusively with that of colour rendering, but the emergence of new light-emitting diode technology light sources has led to its being re-examined. In particular, questions have been raised as to whether colour quality can be calculated by a single measure. Instead, it seems a multidimensional index might better cover such concepts as colour rendering, colour discrimination, harmony, etc. The present work describes a visual colour discrimination experiment whose results corroborate the existence of a multidimensional index, even although some of the parameters commonly used to describe the quality of a light source might be correlated with each other. vision des couleursIndex. décimale : 535.6 Couleur Résumé : An experiment was carried out to evaluate the change of colour appearance of samples under a reference illuminant and four light-emitting diode light sources. The results were used to evaluate the present CIE colour rendering index and other calculation methods. It was found that the present colour rendering index did not predict the visual data accurately. An index based on CAM02-UCS embedded with a reliable chromatic adaptation transform and a uniform colour space gave the best performance. Sources de lumièreIndex. décimale : 621.32 Eclairage Résumé : In UK offices, a ubiquitous target for lighting ‘design’ is an illuminance of 500 lux on the working plane. This article questions the basis for the 500 lux standard and suggests that a reduced illuminance would not affect visual performance. However, lighting design should also consider expectations and if a reduced illuminance leads to perceived gloom then this could affect motivation to carry out work tasks. Evidence is presented which suggests that the brightness of a space may be maintained, despite a reduction in illuminance, through the choice of lamp spectral power distribution. vision des couleursIndex. décimale : 535.6 Couleur Résumé : This paper describes the approaches that can be used to measure task performance and illustrates them by reviewing what is known about the impacts of illuminance and light source spectral power distribution on task performance. The approaches can vary from real tasks studied in the field through simulated tasks or standard tasks to basic visual functions measured in the laboratory. Each approach has different strengths and weaknesses. Understanding what these are is essential for anyone proposing to measure task performance or wishing to appreciate what such performance measurements imply. The review of the effects of spectral power distribution on task performance reveals that there is still much to learn. The effects of spectral power distribution on basic visual functions are well established, but, for tasks where the role of colour is to enhance visibility and conspicuity, there is little more than a qualitative understanding. As for the effects of spectral power distribution on task performance when operating through perception, this is largely unexplored territory. Note de contenu : - Light and task performance

Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : People paint their house for protection and beautify their home. "Paint" and "Beauty" are somewhat synonymous. But rapid technological advancement has increased the functionality of paint beyond protection and aesthetic value. Now in this 21st century a paint or coating can do a lot more than just decoration and protection. This paper describes the various uses of paints other than decoration and protection such as in electronics, energy, food, agriculture, environment friendly coating, ect. This innovative approach of coating is described in brief in this paper.
