A second order central rotatable design for two variables was applied to study the influence of both hydrogen peroxide and amine offers on the characteristics of chromed tanned leather. Likewise, the possible float recycling after protein precipitation and separation by filtration from the unhairing bath was considered. Subsequently, a study on the quantification of water consumption and analysis of the resulting wastewater was carried out for a given hydrogen peroxide and amine offer. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The application of electrolyte stable fatliquoring agents in the chrome tannage has been the state of the art for many years. Due to the polar structure of the fatliquor molecules, chemical and physical interactions with the tanning float are conceivable. Seven different electrolyte-stable fatliquor preparations were tested for their influence on the basification of chrome liquors with magnesium oxide during tannage. It was found that preparations of neutral oil and alkylsulfonates do not have any influence on the pH profile and that cationic emulsified oils exert only a slight influence. However, all fatliquor preparations that contain sulfosuccinates gave lower pHs at moderate temperatures. We determined that this was caused by the formation of slightly soluble magnesium sulfosuccinate compounds. This process is reversible by an increase in temperature, i. e. at temperatures of > 40 °C the final pH is achieved which is the same as a basification without addition of fat-liquoring agents. Also, sulfited products influence the basification in a similar way as the sulfosuccinate products. However, the described effect could not be observed in trials with a test solution (without skin material), so that here the cause has to be searched for in an interaction between fatliquor, skin substance, and magnesium ions. They are chemically derived from (meth)acrylic acids and neutral (meth)acrylate or vinyl esters. The polymers are applied to leather in designed experiments. An analysis of variance of the leather performance data indicates that significant differences exist between polymer treatments. These analyses allow us to reliably determine the retans' balance of value-added properties, i.e., filling, softness, strength, and break. The new anionic polymers also show a sustained tendency to intensify the dye shade of leather, like amphoteric polymers but with better processing flexibility.
