Tannage Résumé : This work was initiated to study the physico-chemical and biological conditions of the tannery effluent and their influence on the east Calcutta wetland ecosystem. Temperature, DO, BOD, COD, TDS, TSS, Conductivity, Total hardness, Chloride content, pH, Phosphates, Nitrates, Acidity and Alkalinity were recorded from four different spots on the sewage carrying canals in the eastern Calcutta (Lat. 22o33’-22o40’ N; long. 88o25’-88o 35’ E). Concentrations of heavy metals as Pb, Cu, Cr, Zn, Fe and Mn in tannery wastewater's and tannery sludge were also determined. Accumulation of these metals in different plant parts and fish organs were also studied. East Calcutta wetland ecosystem exhibited significant ameliorative role in waste stabilization and managing hazardous pollutants. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Fifteen years ago almost all of the enzymes available for leather processing were derived from animal pancreatic tissue and were supplied for use in powdered form. Leahter manufacturers had few enzymatic products to select from in order to assist in processing hides and skins. However, technological advances within the last decade have ushered in a new era of enzymatic products derived from microorganisms. These enzymes, for the most part, are in liquid form and assist the multiple aspects of leather processing such as wetting or soaking, dehairing, degreasing, opening up of the fiber structure and softening. Modern day manufacturers and suppliers of enzymatic products have advanced stability of these biochemical catalysts to new heights with state of the art innovation in design and formulation. Our work has investigated and exploited many of these technological advances in stabilizing enzymes. This has afforded the leather manufacturer flexibility and confidence in producing high quality leathers with efficiency of time and cost.
