[article]
Titre : Surface coatings - Several coating methods Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : M. S. Bhatnagar, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p: 37-52 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The objective of surface preparation is to create a proper adhesion of a coating over the substrate. Adhesion is the key to coating effectiveness, and it determines whether the coating is merely a thin sheet of material lying on the substrate or whether it becomes an actual part of the substrate.
Adhesion becomes an even more critical condition for coatings applied in corrosive areas. Thus, a proper surface preparation is vital to the long life and effectiveness of a coating.
It has been stated that paints fail in direct proportion to their lack of adhesion. Stating this in a positive way, paints(or anticorrosive coatings) are successful in direct proportion to their bond strength to the substrate. The purpose of surface preparation is to ensure that the maximum bond strength will develop at the interface between the substrate and the coating.Note de contenu : - Coating methods

Chandra, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p. 53-56 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The whole text of the paper was presented through fourteen transparencies. The subject matter which has been specifically structured to be of interest and use to the students of surface coating technology has been divided into four parts. The first part contains the classical definition of surface coatings, main ingredients and their functions and the list of resins used for surface coatings. This first part was covered in four transparencies. No. 1 to 4. The second part of the subject matter discussing the fundamentals or elements of Surface Coating Technology was covered in six transparencies No.5 to 10. All the nine elements have been explained in brief. The third part of classification of coatings provides various ways of classifying coatings with examples, in which an effort has been made to include many technological terms used in surface coatings technology. This third part was covered in three transparencies No. 11 to 13. In the last, an effort was made to correlate the various elements of surface coating technology and the different stages of the life cycle of an educated human being. This was shown in the fourteenth transparency. Note de contenu : - Paints/coatings

Jain, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p. 67-73 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Coil coatings are mainly used to coat metal sheets/strips which are post fabricated later to desired products. They offer several advantages over conventional coatings. Some of the advantages are high production capacity, exeptionally uniform coating thickness, minimun paint losses, saving in space and capital investment in establishing paint shops by users. Titre : A novel wetting and dispersing additive for resin-free pigment concentrates Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Janos Hajas, Auteur ; Andreas Arhrens, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p. 79-84 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A new high molecular weight polymeric wetting and dispersing additive was developed t osolve pigment dispersion problems in waterborne high quality coatings and pigment concentrates. Its dispersing effect can be explained by interfacial activity and anchoring to pigment surfaces resulting in good stabilization of all pigments in emulsions, solutions and hybrid aqeous coatings.
Anti-floating and pigment dispersion results, compared to results with conventional additives, are encountered in various aqueous coatings formulations. Formulations containing the polymeric wetting and dispersing additive displays a very high degree of pigment stabilization and good compatibility with several resin types. Results with various grinding methods are being discussed. Recommendations for practical coatings applications are being provided along with detailed information on advantages, usage areas and side effects.Note de contenu : - Characteristics of the novel wetting and dispersing additive
