Leahter manufacturers had few enzymatic products to select from in order to assist in processing hides and skins. However, technological advances within the last decade have ushered in a new era of enzymatic products derived from microorganisms. These enzymes, for the most part, are in liquid form and assist the multiple aspects of leather processing such as wetting or soaking, dehairing, degreasing, opening up of the fiber structure and softening. Modern day manufacturers and suppliers of enzymatic products have advanced stability of these biochemical catalysts to new heights with state of the art innovation in design and formulation. Our work has investigated and exploited many of these technological advances in stabilizing enzymes. This has afforded the leather manufacturer flexibility and confidence in producing high quality leathers with efficiency of time and cost. Titre : Enhancing leather fungicide performance through potentiation chemistry Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Michael E. Elmore, Auteur ; Stephen S. Yanek, Auteur ; Naim Miguel, Auteur ; Daniel E. Tannage Résumé : A unique potentiator chemistry has been developed which enhances leather fungicide performance for both chrome and vegetable tanned wet leather stock mold control. Potentiators function by increasing the penetration of fungicides into fungi by way of increased attachment, distribution and adsorption of the active ingredient on the fungal organisms. In this way, the potential of the fungicide to control and inhibit mold growth can be enhanced significantly. This paper will review the theory and application of potentiation chemistry and will review laboratory and tannery experience where potentiators have been utilized to enhance fungicide effectiveness in wet leather stock.
