Technological advances are no longer the exclusive preserve of the industrialized West and the leather industry is no exception. Tanning is one of the first economies to grow in any developing economy, as it adds value to the growing meat by-products industry, is labor intensive, develops an infrastructure that is used for technologies following and most important - it is easy as the chemicals and machinery supply is readily available.
For the North American leather industry to survive and prosper into the next century greater attention to detail and customer awareness is essential. Westren economies need to produce their "high tech" products faster, with more variety and lower cost. The efficiency of the leather industry is not just the business of making more and more product and keeping coests down by sheer volume. Companies need an integrated strategy involving technology, volume, marketing and making the best use of resources - that is raw materials and people.
This presentation today is designed to stimulate thoughts on the way that attention to detail in improvements in efficiency could have on the financial bottom line and I should explain the terms GRAB !
