Titre : Rheological behaviour of automotive paint systems Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Michael Osterhold, Auteur Année de publication : 2000 Article en page(s) : p. 18-33 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this paper the most important measuring methods for studying the rheological behaviour of modern paint systems (oscillation tests, determination of low yield points) are described. These methods were at first used to describe the rheological/physical properties of model polyurethane microgels. The measured values for storage modulus, phase shift and yield point in waterborne pearlescent/coloured pigment systems were compared with flop-index values. The results show good correlations between the observable effect and the rheological parameters of the liquid paint. Also measurements of powder and electrodeposition coatings and clearcoats with the oscillation technique to determine the viscosity-temperature behaviour correlate well with technical properties of the final films. Note de contenu : 1. Oscillation test results translate to characteristic differences of the materials
2. Rheological characterisation of model microgels : Frequency sweeps show characteristic behaviour of samples - Temperature sweep measurements reveal severe differences - Viscosity curves of microgels
3. Automotive coatings exhibit a characteristic lightness flop : A high flop index means a good effect - Results show some fundamental relationships
4. Measurements of viscosity-temperature behaviour : Powder coatings (Rheological behaviour of powder coatings depends on the heating rate - Viscosity and surface structure) - Electrodeposition coatings - Clearcoats
5 Good correlation of rheological parameters and flop effectsPermalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10988

The methods developed are discussed with respect to the image processing steps required as well as those used for the subsequent analysis of the processed images. The results indicate that the distance transform can be used successfully to characterize scribe corrosion. Note de contenu : - To create a distance map

Fluides non newtoniensIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A test procedure is described which has been developed from the flow-cup method and allows the flow properties not only of Newtonian, but also of non-Newtonian liquids to be characterised. Thereby, the time is measured It takes for a liquid flowing out of a flow cup to spread along a horizontal channel. This procedure is particularly suited characterising the fluid flow from a leak in a container and therefore offers the possibility of classifying also non-Newtonian liquids for the purpose of storage and transport by a practical value that is easy to determine. By calibration with Newtonian standard liquids, the correlation with the flow-cup method used for Newtonian liquids is established. Note de contenu : - Characterisation of shear conditions in flow cups
- Modified test procedure : combined flow-cup and open-channel method
- Calibration using newtonian liquids
- Application of the open-channel and flow-cup procedure to non-newtonian liquidsPermalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10990

Verkholantsev, Auteur Année de publication : 2000 Article en page(s) : p. 56-60 Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Biocide additives are introduced into coating formulations in order to prevent the growth (proliferation) of microorganisms, therefore protecting liquid paints, dry coatings and production sites from biological spoilage, damage and failure. Their efficiency is normally selective and depends on the nature of the material to be protected, climatic zone, and sometimes also local conditions. Because of their toxicity for operators, ecotoxicity (for environment) and reactivity, that may cause various side effects in wet paints and dry coatings, biocides are regarded as a "necessary evil ". However, with the trend away from solvent to water-based compositions, the use of acticides in coatings is increasing. Note de contenu : - Microorganisms
