Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Hydroxy-functional polyether and polyester macrodiols, often refered to as soft segments, have found wide applications as reactive building blocks for the synthesis of polyurethane resins and binders. The appropriate choice of soft segments for the synthesis of PUR binders allows for a broad spectra of paint properties. a,w-Polymethacrylate diols represent a new class of macrodiols which successfully combines positive properties of ester and acrylate structures in one single macrodiol. Depending on the formulation, the following benefits can be shown: higher hardness, better flexibility, good humidity stress resistance, improved hydrolysis resistance, better weathering resistance. Titre : Photoinitiator efficiency in water-borne UV curable coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Norbert Pietschmann, Auteur Année de publication : 1999 Article en page(s) : p. 60-69 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Various photoinitiators were tested in simple clearcoat formulations based on two aqueous UV curable resin emulsions (both unsaturated polyester and polyester acrylate) and on two polyurethane acrylate dispersions. Predrying temperatures, initiator concentrations, and incorporation methods were varied. Pendulum hardness on glass allowed a rapid estimation of the curing results. Crystalline 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-[4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-phenyl] propan-1-one (no. 3 of the initiator types investigated) gave superior curing response especially at lower photoinitiator levels which could be easily incorporated. On the other hand, other photoinitiator types were useful in significantly higher concentrations, too. Thus, they also made possible similar results. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Performance fluids is a collect name for a variety of low volatile liquids added to conventional, waterborne, high solids and non-aqueous dispersion coating compositions in relatively small quantities with the aim to improve their application and film forming properties, thereby providing defect-free applications and enhanced coating performance. At present such additives are almost incumbent components of decorative, protective and various special coatings. This article discusses the use and functions of performance fluids in latex (emulsion) paints, where performance fluids perform a number of functions acting as coalescing agents, anti-foams, substrate and pigment wetting agents (promoters), flow controllers and surface conditioners etc. Note de contenu : - Performance fluids in emulsion paints are adressed to improve application properties
- Additives efficiency depends on two factors
- Film formation mechanism
- Minimum film forming temperature (MFFT)
- Coalescing aids
- Evaporation rate control
- Rheology modification
- Surface conditioning
- Pigment and substrate wetting
- Paint stability
- Freeze/thaw stability
- Anti-foaming function

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPN) are novel types of polymer blends and they possess excellent physicochemical properties suitable for high performance coatings. In the present work a novel siliconized-epoxy coating system was developed by interpenetrating technique. The effect of siloxane introduction into epoxy resin and nature of curatives on the corrosion resistance characteristics towards steel specimen were studied by weight loss and electrochemical potential measurements. It was observed that, the siloxane incorporation enhances the corrosion resistant properties and reduce moisture absorption. It was also observed that the aromatic polyamineadduct cured siloxane modified epoxy coating system with 25% zinc powder exhibits better corrosion resistance than the polyamidoamine cured system. Note de contenu : - Status quo

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Tomorrow's industrial coatings, printing inks and adhesives will have to face more severe requirements in terms of solvent emission, drying time, energy consumption and final properties. There is an existing technology that combines answers to all these requirements : the technology of ultraviolet (UV) or electron beam (EB) curing. This paper gives you a general introduction to this technology and covers the following aspects : advantages and limitations, applications, principles, equipment, raw materials costs. Note de contenu : - GRAPHIC ARTS, WOOD-COATINGS AND ELECTRONICS ARE THE THREE MAIN APPLICATIONS
- PRINCIPLES : In radiation curing, two curing technologies are used : UV and EB - Essentially two different chemistries are used : free radical and cationic
- OXYGEN INHIBITION CAN BE OVERCOME IN TWO WAYS
- EQUIPMENT : Medium pressure mercury arc lamps are the most widely used UV lamps - Linear cathode type and the scanning type are two types of electron beam equipment
- RAW MATERIALS IN CAMPARISON : Raw materials for free radical curing - Raw material for cationic curing
- COST : A fair comparison is not to compare the cost per kq - No incinerator is necessary - Very low energy consumption for direct energy curing - Investment costs for UV-curing are not higher than conventional equipment
