Boudreaux, Auteur ; Amir Niroomand, Auteur ; Thierry Jeannette, Auteur Année de publication : 1999 Article en page(s) : p. 30-35 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Two-component waterborne polyurethane systems have been an active area of research and business development in recent years. Most of these waterborne systems require relatively high isocyanate indexing over hydroxyl content in order to compensate for the inevitable competing reaction with water. We develop combinations of novel acrylic polyol dispersions and a novel water dispersible polyisocyanate that produce useful coatings at -NCO/ -OH indexing of less than 1.25. A discussion is included on how variations in components of the formulations influence pot life, application properties, tack-free and through-cure time film properties, and accelerated weathering data. Titre : UV curing of white cationic flexographic inks Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Tom Scherzer, Auteur ; Ulrich Decker, Auteur ; Igor Janovsky, Auteur ; Reiner Mehnert, Auteur Année de publication : 1999 Article en page(s) : p. 36-47 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Cationic UV curable formulations such as flexographic printing inks or white base coatings are slowly curing systems. The question if an increase of the curing speed can be obtained by applying a XeCl* excimer instead of a medium pressure mercury lamp of equal electric power could be answered : replacing by a 308 nm excimer lamp allows to reach about 20-30% higher cure speed in the curing of cationic white flexo inks. In addition, real-time FTIR experiments on UV curing of cationic flexographic inks show a clear effect of temperature on polymerization rate. Actinometry of curing light sources provides valuable information about photon rates which can be used to estimate cure speeds expected under technological curing conditions. Note de contenu : - Curing of white ink is the speed determining step
- Can the cure speed be increased by applying a XeCl* excimer lamp?
- General mechanism of cationic curing and evaluation of kinetic parameters
- The cure speed concept
- Weakness of the cure speed concept
- Real-time Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy
- Determination of the cure speed derived from conversion vs. time profiles
- Is UV curing accelerated by heat?
- Heat accelerates postcuring
- Printing trials using the flexographic press "Soloflex"
- Cure speed with excimer lamp is clearly higher
- Chemical actinometry of polychromatic and monochromatic radiation
- Measurement of the 313 nm light
- Measurement of the polychromatic light
- Polymerisation rate at monochromatic is higher than during polychromatic exposure
- Discussion of the results
- Theoretical cure speed estimations are in accordance with the experimental findings

Titre : Rheology of paints and applications Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Vladimir V. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Flow behavior is one of the most important technical properties of a coating system, that is determinated primarily by the binder (its chemistry, molecular weight), the solvent content and affinity to the resin, the pigmentation, and a variety of coatings additives. However, there is a wide range of rheological additives available to the formulator, that usually only can render liquid coating compositions the flow characteristics necessary to assure their proper processing, shelf stability, application properties and defect-free end coatings with desirable technical characteristics. This includes film thickness, uniformity, and many decorative and protective properties. This article considers paint rheology and describes viscosity-controlled processes in coatings.
