Huile de sésameIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The preset study aims to evaluate the performance of sesame oil as an alternative of soybean and linseed oil in the formulation of offset printing ink. Three sets of rosin modified phenolic resin based varnishes were made for offset ink applications (sheet fed ink) using linseed, soya and sesame oil as vegetable oil sources. Three offset cyan inks were made with these three varnishes and were critically evaluated the performance of the inks. Sesame oil showed significant advantages on the controlled rheological properties with good print and post print properties in comparison with other conventional oils like soya and linseed Sesame oil produced a superior quality of printed specimen with less hazards in the runnability in the machine. So sesame oil can be used successfully as an alternative vegetable oil in printing ink formulation. SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Copper soaps have been prepared from fresh and used sesame oils. The formation of copper soaps has been confirmed by spectral technique. Micellar characterization of copper soaps has been studied by density, viscosity and ultrasonic measurements. The apparent molar volume and apparent molar compressibility have been enumerated at constant temperature using these data. The results were used to determine the critical micelle concentration (CMC), soap-solvent interaction. The results of apparent molar volume were discussed in terms of Masson's equation and the results of viscosity data have been discussed in terms of Jones-Dole equation. The CMC values are found to increase with decrease in average molecular weight of the soap. It has been observed that there is a decrease in soap-solvent interaction with the decrease in average molecular weight of copper soap. SulfonationIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Fatliquor is an oil-in-water emulsion that improves the physical properties of leather such as tensile strength, flexibility, and softness by lubricating the leather fibres. Sulfonated Sesamum indicum oil was synthesized, characterized, and examined for consideration as a substitute for imported fatliquor in Nigeria. The sulfonation of the oil was confirmed by the significant observations made in the FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and 13C NMR DEPT analysis results. A remarkable difference was observed in the physicochemical properties results of both unsulfonated and sulfonated oils. The sulfonated sesame fatliquor was applied onto goatskin and compared with a commercial sulfated fatliquor in the processing of shoe upper leather using standard methods. The average results for tensile strength, double edge tear, elongation, and softness results for the commercial and synthesized fatliquors are as follows: 14.27 N/mm2; 13.77 N/mm2, 50.61 N; 60.11 N, 38.06%; 54.28%, 25.2; 25.0. A comparable level of lubrication of the leather treated with the sulfonated Sesamum indicum oil and that treated with the commercial leather fatliquor was revealed by the Sudan IV stain test as well as scanning electron microscopy analysis results. Experimental analyses, therefore, show that the as-synthesized sulfonated Sesamum indicum oil could be considered as a substitute for imported fatliquor in the leather industry.
