Titre : Influence of polyamide powders to epoxy resins : Effective crack propagation resistance enhancement and toughness improvement in thermoset coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Emeryc Valot, Auteur ; François D. C. Gallouédec, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p. 438-443 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The purpose of this study is to review the influence of adding eight different grades of ultra fine microporous polyamide (PA) thermoplastic particles to different epoxy resins by summarizing the studies conducted to date. Thermomechanical and dynamic mechanical analysis showed that the reactivity of these different epoxy systems was not affected by the introduction of the PA particles, independently of their chemkal nature. Concerning the mechanical properties, the introduction of PA powders had no influence on the elastic behavior of the reinforced networks, but the authors observed an increase of the critical stress intensity factor KIC. Clayton, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p. 444-447 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The effective use of titanium dioxide pigments and opaque polymers together in decorative paints is considered. Results show that while it is true that opaque polymers can produce cost effective opacity under some conditions, under others their use can actually reduce opacity through flocculation and/or pigment crowding. The performance window for opaque polymers in semigloss latex paints is predicted using designed experiment techniques. This information is presented along with a discussion of the possible causes for the opacity loss observed under some conditions. Note de contenu : - Opacity

Titre : Polyester/B-hydroxyalkylamide powder coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Andreas Kaplan, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p. 448-453 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This presentation considers the chemistry of polyester/?-hydroxyalkylamide powder coatings in greater depth. The basic chemical principles of the reaction between ?-hydroxyalkylamides and carboxyl functional compounds and their importance for the practical use of ?-hydroxyalkylamides as cross-linking agents for carboxyl functional polyesters are described. Results regarding UV and hydrolytic resistance of ?-hydroxyalkylamide esters obtained using this system on monomer model substances are given and their significance for practical use of polyester/?-hydroxyalkylamide systems as binding agents in exterior durable powder coatings is shown. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Recent changes in coating technology have been induced by legislation, as well as competitive and consumer pressures to produce environmentally and user friendly coatings without sacrificing their technology and service properties. This trend, with its emphasis on environmental, quality and economic issues, including requirements for sufficiently prolonged life span (which is as quality, as economic issue), is believed to retain its actuality over the near future. Formation of durable structures and retardance of exploitation changes in coatings are viewed among the main technological objectives of coating technology. Titre : Pretreatment for cathodic electro coating : The significance of phosphate coating stability Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : T. S. N. Sankara Narayanan, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p. 466-467 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : It has been established by now that cathodic electro coating is the ultimate in the finishing of automotive body panels following its beneficial role in improving the corrosion resistance of the total paint system besides exhibiting an improved throwing power. However, to achieve the proclaimed benefit, the materials used, the pretreatment utilized, and, the electro coating applied, should be fully compatible with each other since any weak link in the system will lead to a total failure. Literature reports reveal that considerable number of changes has been made in the pretreatment cycle, specifically in phosphating formulations, to cope up with the cathodic electro coating. Before going into details of these changes it is important to recall the factors that have forced to adopt such modifications.
