[article]
Titre : Colloid chemistry aids to formulating inks and paints Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Jörg Schröder, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p. 334-340 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Some classical formulation guidelines for paints and inks are reported and discussed from a colloidal viewpoint: rheology and dispersing apparatus; dosing of additives and bottle-shaking. These ideas help to optimize the mechanistic parameters such as particle size and pigment volume concentration of pigment dispersions. Then the solubility parameter concept is discussed as an energetic-colloidal aid in formulation work. This allows harmonization of the energetics of polymer, solvent and pigment in solvent-borne inks and paints in order to improve the distribution and stabilization of the pigments therein. - Flow behaviour and dispersing aggragates

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A new generation, waterborne epoxy resin system that offers higher value for ambient cure coatings has been developed. The purpose of this paper is to describe the new waterborne epoxy resin and amine-functional curing agent system for use in ambient cure coatings on steel or concrete substrates. Basic material characteristics and coating formulating information will be presented. The influence of amine-to-epoxide stoichiometry on the performance properties of enamel and primer coatings formulated from these new materials will be discussed. Note de contenu : - Enamel coatings

Titre : Rheological parameters of waterborne coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Lori J. Boggs, Auteur ; David Law, Auteur ; Hitoshi Taniguchi, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p. 350-353 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The authors have studied the rheological parameters of several waterborne coating systems to determine if there are particular material characteristics common to coatings with good flake orientation. They also evaluated the effect of varying the type and level of different types of rheology control agents within one waterborne basecoat system to determine the effect on rheological properties as well as on the flake orientation of the final film. This work shows that no single rheological parameter will correlate with good flake orientation in all systems, and surprisingly, lower solids systems do not necessarily result in coatings with better flake orientation. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This paper will highlight some of the recent results from studies on polyesters prepared from purified isophthalic acid (PIA), terephthalic acid (PTA), 5-tert-butyl isophthalic acid (tBIA) and trimellitic anhydride (TMA). Examples are provided for each of the following systems: high-solids and solvent-borne polyester-urethanes, waterborne acrylic-polyester polyurethane blends, waterborne alkyd emulsions, and lower temperature cure polyester powder coatings. The results show that polyester coatings prepared from these aromatic starting materials offer advantages in their useful combination of mechanical properties, appearance and durability. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Powder paints, which employ air as a carrier component, are an alternative to liquid paints. Despite of a few decades of aspiration regarding their sharp growth on account of conventional solvent-based paints, their proportion is still relatively small due to the fact that their application is associated with a few limitations, the main arise from heat-induced film forming process and requirements for specific application technique. However, this section of polymer coatings continuously enjoys stable expansion to new fields of application, being sufficiently commercial, durable on service and environmentally friendly.
