Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Leather was dyed pink or beige using various dyestuff types and a range of fixing agents after whichit was base coated and either left without a topcoat or given a solvent based top coat or an aqueous based topcoat. This range of samples was then subjected to accelerated ageing and colour changes were monitored. In the case of the pink leather significant colour changes were observed. It was concluded that these changes were not due to dye migration from leather to coating as originally thought but were associated with the fatliquor used in the leathermaking process. The type of topcoat applied had a significant influence on the degree of colour change observed. TanneriesIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : There is a growing focus on the industrial use of energy by governments with an impending increase in costs to the industrial user. The aim of this paper is to “footprint” the use of electricity in a tannery for many of the machines used for upper leather production and so establish a profile of its use when the machines are either idling or on load. EpilageIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : It has long been recognised that enzymatic removal of hair would provide a suitable alternative to destructive sulfide unhairing and a number of workers have investigated the use of proteolytic enzymes to this end. These studies include the use of a diverse array of enzymes from a range of enzyme classes many of which are rather non-specific. A more subtle approach would involve specific cleavage of basement membrane components e.g. type IV collagen, leaving types I and III collagens intact. Consequently, a series of pilot studies on hair removal from bovine hides was carried out using a neutral protease enzyme, dispase, which possesses such substrate specificity. The enzyme caused loosening of the hair and associated hair loss, without damaging the fibrous collagen of the dermis.
